In just a few days, Hanoi students will start the entrance exam for grade 10 in the 2025 - 2026 school year.
Mr. Tran The Cuong, Director of the Hanoi Department of Education and Training (DET) informed that at the beginning of the school year, the Department had issued specific instructions, the orientation of students after graduation from junior high school is currently based on personal capacity, legitimate aspirations of students and appropriate career orientation.
"Schools can advise and provide diverse information, but absolutely must not cause confusion or hinder students' right to take the 10th grade entrance exam" - Mr. Cuong affirmed.
The head of the capital's education sector understands the great pressure on public schools in Hanoi. However, he also acknowledged that the task of the education sector and schools is to create conditions and support students to confidently review and confidently take the exam. Mobilizing students not to take exams is contrary to educational ethics, affecting their right to study, so it cannot be accepted.

Regarding information and parents' opinions reflecting on the fact that some teachers or schools, for many reasons, have advised students to "not take the public 10th grade entrance exam", or suggested registering for admission to a vocational education center for continuing education or vocational school, Mr. Cuong said that the Department has received the information. At the same time, directing the departments of education and training to review and report specifically.
According to Mr. Cuong, there are many types of schools in the city, ensuring that they meet the learning needs of students after graduating from high school. These are private schools, vocational education centers - continuing education, vocational schools... Choosing which learning model is the wish and right of students and their families.
" Any act of forcedness or misorientation towards students will be strictly handled.
We also want to send a message to parents and students: The entrance exam to public high school in grade 10 is an important milestone, but not the only path to learning.
Parents need to create a comfortable atmosphere, not putting pressure on their children. The Department is committed to accompanying and supporting all students who wish to take the exam, creating learning conditions for them in many suitable forms, absolutely leaving no one behind" - Director of the Hanoi Department of Education and Training affirmed.
According to Mr. Cuong, one of the notable new points of this year's 10th grade entrance exam is the adjustment of the admission score calculation method. Instead of multiplying the coefficient by 2 for math and language arts like previous years, this year, the admission score will be the total score of 3 subjects ( Math, language arts, foreign languages), each subject is calculated on a scale of 10 and not multiplied by coefficient. This calculation method aims to ensure fairness between subjects, encouraging students to study all subjects equally.
In addition, to reduce pressure on students, the City has increased the enrollment rate in public schools to about 64%, equivalent to nearly 80,000 targets, an increase of 3% compared to the previous school year.
The entrance exam for grade 10 public high school in Hanoi this year took place from June 6-9.
June 6 is the day candidates complete procedures, students will take the mass exam in Math, Literature, Foreign Language for 2 days, June 7-8. Students in the specialized exam will take the exam on June 9.
