According to statistics from the Ministry of Education and Training, as of 5 pm on May 5 (the time of completion of registration for the high school graduation exam), the total number of registered candidates is 1,223,776, the highest in many years.
Previously, there were about 800,000 to more than 1.15 million candidates each year.
Among more than 1.2 million candidates registered for this year's exam, 12th grade students are 1,159,932 students (accounting for 94.78%), independent candidates are 63,844 (accounting for 5.22%). Foreign language exam exemption registered candidates are 7,952 (accounting for 0.65%).

The 2026 high school graduation exam takes place on December 11-12. 6. In addition to 2 compulsory subjects including Mathematics and Literature, candidates will take 2 more subjects selected from Foreign Language, History, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Geography, Economic and Legal Education, Informatics, Technology.
Except for Literature, which is tested in essay form, the remaining subjects are tested by candidates in the form of objective multiple-choice tests.
The Ministry of Education and Training notes that this year, no matter what method of university admission is used, candidates also need to achieve 15 or more points in the graduation exam according to a combination of 3 subjects. Therefore, candidates need to closely follow the school's review plan, take mock exams to gain more experience, thereby assessing the limitations to review more thoroughly.
The time to announce the high school graduation exam scores in 2026 is July 1, about 12 days earlier than in 2025.
