According to the enrollment plan for 10th grade in the 2026-2027 school year, after the official enrollment ends, the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training (GDĐT) will summarize and review the application situation at high schools.
Based on actual data and proposals from educational institutions, the Department of Education and Training may consider organizing additional enrollment, and at the same time issue specific guidance documents to recruit enough quotas at schools that are still lacking.
However, according to the enrollment plan for the first grades of the 2026-2027 school year of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee, if supplementary enrollment is organized, the subjects eligible to participate are students who have taken the exam but have not been admitted to all 3 registered aspirations.
Thus, in case a student has been admitted but does not submit an admission application or does not carry out admission confirmation on time without a valid reason certified by a competent authority, it will be considered a refusal of admission right.
These cases do not have their results preserved and lose the right to participate in subsequent enrollment rounds, including supplementary enrollment rounds in the same school year.
This year, the 10th grade entrance exam in Ho Chi Minh City takes place in two days, June 1st and 2nd, with more than 151,000 candidates participating. This is the first year the exam has been organized after Ho Chi Minh City expanded its administrative boundaries on the basis of merging with Binh Duong and Ba Ria - Vung Tau.
The general grade 10 admission score is calculated by the total score of three subjects Literature, Mathematics and English along with priority points (if any). Candidates must take all three subjects, not violate exam regulations and have no exam papers with a score of 0.
In recent years, in Ho Chi Minh City, the situation of students admitted to 10th grade but not enrolling is quite common.
In the period 2023-2025, the city recorded about 2,000-4,000 students admitted but not enrolled each year, mostly concentrated in high schools in suburban areas.
Many cases are identified as being due to students not considering carefully when registering aspirations, leading to the fact that when they are admitted, they realize that the travel distance each day can be up to tens of kilometers, exceeding their ability to meet.
Diversifying high school education types
According to the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training, in addition to the public high school system, Ho Chi Minh City focuses on developing a variety of types of education to meet the rich learning needs of students and people, including:
Vocational Education - Continuing Education centers implement the General Education Program with more than 16, 226 targets. Non-public (private) high schools with 25,574 10th grade enrollment targets.
The above types are all managed strictly and systematically, ensuring the quality of education and meeting the diverse needs of learners.
Thus, calculating all types, the total target for high school entrance this year reached 97.34% compared to the number of students completing secondary school, meeting the city's strategic education target by 2030 to reach a rate of 95% of high school graduates and equivalents.
