On the afternoon of November 5, the Department of Education and Training (DET) of Ho Chi Minh City said that, based on the decision of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee on urgently deploying plans and response measures due to the impact of storm Kalmaegi, the Department of Education and Training requested heads of educational institutions to focus on implementing preventive and response measures when storm Kalmaegi affects the Ho Chi Minh City area.
In particular, facilities are preparing plans to respond to the impact of storms, especially thunderstorms, whirlwinds, landslides, and flooding caused by heavy rain combined with high tides.
At the same time, urgently repair and reinforce works at risk of being unsafe, coordinate with specialized units to trim the tree system inside schools, check the sewer system, drainage ditches, and power grid to ensure safety for students, teachers, and management staff before storms and floods occur.
Prepare plans to evacuate students and teachers to safe places; relocate records and equipment to dry places before storms and floods. The Department of Education and Training recommends that school leaders proactively coordinate with local authorities to receive support in terms of expertise, materials, and equipment when situations arise.
The Department also recommends that schools closely monitor the developments of storms and floods, maintain regular contact with authorities and local rescue forces to promptly respond in case of incidents. Plan to prepare online learning plans, temporarily postpone school schedules during complicated storms if any. Urgently overcome the damage; clean up and organize schools and classrooms immediately after storms to ensure safety, cleanliness, and disease prevention at the unit.
Proactively coordinate with the local Steering Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention and Search and Rescue to organize propaganda to teachers, students, students and parents about skills to respond to natural disasters, provide first aid and ensure safety in emergency situations.
In particular, the Department requires schools to temporarily postpone educational activities outside of school hours for students before, during and after the storm until safety work returns to normal.
