Schools only have house frames left
With less than a month left until school day, now, both teachers and students of Chieng So Ethnic Boarding - Secondary School (PTDTBT) in Muong Luan commune, Dien Bien province are facing many difficulties when almost all facilities and teaching and learning equipment were flooded on the morning of August 1.

More than a week after the flood, Chieng So Secondary Boarding School for Ethnic Minorities still has a messy scene, with mud still printed all over the walls of classrooms, some places up to 2m high. Students' desks, chairs, and books are covered with mud.
Accordingly, the historic flood caused the water level to rise by more than 3 meters above the school's surface.
Talking to Lao Dong Newspaper reporter, Mr. Nguyen Danh Hy - Principal of Chieng So Boarding School for Ethnic Minorities - could not hide his sadness: "All assets, teaching equipment and books in the library were damaged. In general, the school only has one house left.

According to Mr. Hy, the floodwaters caused 2 photocopy machines, 3 printers, 7 multi-purpose projectors, 20 IT rooms, 4 smart interactive screens, 160 sets of student desks and chairs and 120 sets of blankets for boarding students to be completely damaged.

All books, books, stories and teaching materials were also damaged. Many important books, textbooks and records and degrees of teachers were soaked in water and severely damaged. The total damage is estimated at about 2.5 billion VND.
Worries before the opening day
On August 4, all teachers and staff of the school gathered at school to wade through mud, clean up and try to "save" what was still possible. "The teachers are trying to wash and dry the tables and chairs to restore them to the maximum" - Mr. Hy said.

Teacher Tran Van Bo - who has been with the school for 15 years - said: "The elderly in the village also said that this was the first time in their life they had seen such a flood. As a teacher, seeing the scene of tables and chairs, the teaching equipment system is broken, it is really difficult".
The biggest concern of teachers at this time is that the new school year is approaching. "The whole school has about 530 students, of which 330 are boarding students. It is expected that on August 28, students will return to school to prepare for the opening ceremony. However, there are almost no tools left..." - the principal said.

At this time, the biggest wish of teachers and students of Chieng So Boarding School for Ethnic Minorities is to receive support and help from benefactors and the community with practical support in books, school supplies, teaching equipment and living supplies for boarding students.
The flood also damaged many schools in Xa Dung, Muong Luan, Na Son communes. Accordingly, in Xa Dung commune, Suoi Lu kindergarten was completely flooded, some classrooms were damaged, and the roofs collapsed.

In Muong Luan commune, Pa Vat school had a collapsed toilet, a sunken classroom, and a system of fences and school gates were severely damaged. Luan Goi school is at risk of collapsing due to landslides behind it.
In Na Son commune, Bang Choc school in Na Phat Kindergarten was flooded 3m deep, causing great damage to teaching equipment and students' daily activities.
Immediately after the flood, the Dien Bien Education sector coordinated with local authorities to organize to overcome the consequences, visit and support each family with a student who died. Schools are also urgently cleaning up and repairing damage, ensuring safety for teachers and students and being ready for the new school year 2025-2026.
In recent days, floods and landslides in the North Central and Northern mountainous provinces have killed and left many people missing, houses, schools and maple blossoms were swept away and submerged in mud, affecting local production activities.
