Dien Bien - The Women's Union (WUSA) has contributed thousands of working days to support households in flooded areas to clean up their houses and repair roads to overcome the consequences of natural disasters.

As reported by Lao Dong Newspaper, the heavy rain on the night of July 31 and early morning of August 1 caused flash floods and terrible landslides, causing heavy damage to people and property in many mountainous communes of Dien Bien province.

On August 7, a working delegation of the Women's Union of Dien Bien province led by Ms. Po Dieu Ninh - Vice Chairman of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Dien Bien province, Vice Chairman of the Women's Union of Dien Bien province, along with the Women's Union of the Police, Military, Border Guard of the province and the Women's Business Club... visited the health and spiritual life of patients who are women's union members and children injured by landslides and floods.

Here, the group presented 4 gifts, each worth 1.5 million VND, to share some of the difficulties, adding motivation for members and children to feel secure in treatment and recover their health soon.

Ms. Po Dieu Ninh also hopes that the women will be mentally strong, soon stabilize their lives, and help the locality overcome the difficult period, hoping that the children will recover quickly to go to school in the new school year.

According to Ms. Po Dieu Ninh, after the natural disaster occurred in the province causing severe consequences, the Provincial Women's Union widely launched the movement "Women in Dien Bien province join hands to overcome the consequences of floods".

Accordingly, the Association has directed grassroots levels to urgently review and grasp the damage situation of members, proactively implement the "4 on-site" motto, closely coordinate with the government and functional forces in evacuating people and overcoming the consequences of floods.

In particular, special attention should be paid to vulnerable groups such as pregnant women, women raising young children and children.

In addition, thousands of working days of women's union members across the province have also been mobilized to support families in cleaning their houses, repairing roads, and stabilizing their lives.

The Provincial Women's Union has raised a total of VND89.5 million in cash and items (including VND55.5 million in cash and essential items such as tarpaulins, clothes, water containers, etc. worth VND34 million).

All money and relief items will be transferred by the Provincial Women's Union to the Provincial Relief Fund and given directly to members of women and children who are severely affected.

As of August 6, the whole province had 10 deaths and 12 injuries; over 640 houses were damaged, thousands of hectares of rice and crops were washed away and buried; many traffic routes, schools, medical facilities, public works... estimated damage of over 700 billion VND.

In recent days, floods and landslides in the North Central and Northern mountainous provinces have killed and left many people missing, houses, schools and maple blossoms were swept away and submerged in mud, affecting local production activities.
