On the evening of August 4, the Dien Bien Provincial Party Committee held an urgent meeting to direct the construction of houses for people affected by flash floods and landslides. Accordingly, an urgent meeting of the Steering Committee for Social Housing Development was held with the online participation of all 45 communes and wards.
According to statistics from the Steering Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention - Search and Rescue of Dien Bien province, the recent flash floods and landslides in the area collapsed and damaged 554 houses of people in 9 communes.
Of which, Xa Dung commune had 149 houses affected (35 houses completely collapsed), Tia Dinh commune had 154 houses and Na Son commune had 155 houses damaged...
According to Mr. Vu A Bang - Vice Chairman of Dien Bien Provincial People's Committee, out of 554 houses of people damaged and damaged, 73 houses were completely damaged; 241 houses were severely damaged; 233 houses were at risk of landslides; 7 houses had to be urgently evacuated.
To promptly support families with heavy damage to their houses, Party committees and authorities of communes have arranged temporary safe accommodation for households.
To ensure stable housing for families who have lost their homes or whose houses have collapsed due to natural disasters, Dien Bien province has directed the Department of Agriculture and Environment to preside over and coordinate with the Department of Construction to review and identify 2 resettlement locations in Xa Dung and Tia Dinh communes. At the same time, continue to survey to determine the resettlement location for households in Na Son commune.
Regarding the support level, Dien Bien plans to support each family to rebuild their house with about 100 million VND; for households whose houses are severely damaged but can be repaired, the support level is expected to be 20 million VND/house from the budget.
For families with minor damage (flooded or partially damaged houses), the support level is expected to be from 3-5 million VND/household. The funding is used from emergency support sources, local reserve budget sources and mobilization sources of the Vietnam Fatherland Front of the province.
Speaking at the meeting, Mr. Tran Quoc Cuong - Secretary of Dien Bien Provincial Party Committee suggested that communes with households that need support to renovate and repair houses due to natural disasters must proactively find locations to arrange houses for people. The Provincial Military Command proactively coordinates with departments, branches and proactively volunteers to be ready to build houses for people in flooded areas, ensuring savings but still meeting the needs and customs of the people.
In recent days, floods and landslides in the North Central and Northern mountainous provinces have killed and left many people missing, houses, schools and maple blossoms were swept away and submerged in mud, affecting local production activities.
