Dien Bien - After more than a week of the historic flash flood, the scene is still covered in mud even though thousands of people are still working day and night to fix it.

As reported by Lao Dong Newspaper, due to the impact of heavy rains lasting from the night of July 31 to August 2, flash floods and terrible landslides caused heavy damage to people and property in Xa Dung, Tia Dinh, Muong Luan, Na Son communes... of Dien Bien province, leaving a scene of devastation and devastation.

A week after the flash flood, many villages in mountainous communes are still covered in mud.

According to statistics, the flood took the lives of 10 people (7 in Xa Dung commune, 3 in Tia Dinh commune) and injured 12 others.

The natural disaster also caused over 600 houses to be severely damaged, of which 65 houses were completely washed away, 215 houses were severely damaged and 338 houses were in landslide-prone areas that had to be urgently evacuated. All of the assets saved for life of many families such as motorbikes, production machinery, household items...

In addition, the infrastructure system of many communes is completely paralyzed. A series of key routes were cut off with 391 landslides on the positive slope. Up to 16 inter-village roads were isolated and severely damaged.

In addition, 14 irrigation works, domestic water works, a series of headquarters, schools, medical stations and 4 hydropower works were damaged and landslides. In particular, agriculture also suffered heavy losses with more than 238 hectares of rice, corn and crops buried or washed away, along with many livestock, poultry and fish ponds of the people. The total estimated property damage has exceeded 700 billion VND.

Hundreds of officers and soldiers of the Dien Bien Provincial Military Command and the 82nd Regiment, Division 355 (Military Region 2) were mobilized and quickly mobilized to hot spots to support people in flooded areas to evacuate houses at risk of landslides, build battlefield tents for people, disinfect the environment, dredge mud, clean houses... The green color of the army's shirt has become a solid support for people in the middle of devastation and ruins.

While being helped by soldiers to demolish the house, Mr. Lo Van Khin (32 years old, Suoi Lu village, Na Son commune) said: "I have no property to get back, luckily the whole family was able to run away in time, the house was not swept away. My family is now temporarily staying at a relative's house, and I am truly grateful to the soldiers for coming to help."

With the spirit of "leaving no one behind", on August 8, in Muong Luan commune, Military Region 2 coordinated with Dien Bien province to organize a groundbreaking ceremony for the construction and repair of houses for households affected by flash floods and landslides.

Accordingly, more than 300 houses will be newly built and repaired from the support fund of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front. The Armed Forces of Military Region 2 and the Military Command of Dien Bien province are determined to complete the project before September 30, in accordance with the Prime Minister's request.

In recent days, floods and landslides in the North Central and Northern mountainous provinces have killed and left many people missing, houses, schools and maple blossoms were swept away and submerged in mud, affecting local production activities.
