On the afternoon of November 11, the Department of Education and Training of Gia Lai province said that the principal of Heroes' High School for the Gifted (To Tung commune) had reported on the handling of violations against Ms. Pham Thi Hong B. - a contract teacher teaching Chemistry - who was reported to have used a gauge to repeatedly beat students. Ms. B. signed a contract with the school from September 1, 2025.
According to the Principal of Hero Nup High School, on November 3 and 5, Ms. B. beat a 10A student with a measuring stick. After learning about the incident, the school invited Ms. B. to work, asking her to write a report and organize a parent meeting for class 10A. At the meeting, Ms. B. admitted her mistake and apologized to the school leaders and parents.
After listening to opinions from all sides, parents also realized that Ms. B.'s behavior stemmed from love and worry for her students, but due to lack of experience in handling, the incident was unwanted.
After the meeting, 14/15 parents present suggested that Ms. B. go to each student's family to apologize and agree to let her continue teaching. The school also committed to a Council meeting to agree on how to handle and notify the results to parents and students throughout the school.
On the morning of November 10, during the flag-raising ceremony, the Principal publicly apologized to all students and sent his apologies to parents. After that, the school met and decided to terminate the teaching contract with Ms. B. from November 10.
The leader of the Department of Education and Training of Gia Lai province said that Ms. B. admitted that she was angry and lacked restraint when seeing many students doing basic exercises incorrectly, leading to inappropriate teaching behavior.
"Through this incident, the Department will direct the review and rectification of management work, thoroughly grasping the entire industry to avoid similar violations," said the leader of the Department of Education and Training.
Explaining why most parents agreed to let Ms. B. go to each family to apologize and continue teaching, but the school still decided to terminate the contract, the leader of the Department of Education and Training of Gia Lai province said that Ms. B. is not currently a civil servant, only signing a short-term contract with the school, so she must comply with the terms of the contract.
The contract termination is appropriate, because Ms. B. violated the commitments between the two parties. This is a profound lesson for young, inexperienced teachers. Later, Ms. B. can still sign contracts with other schools or re-sign with the old school to teach.
Previously, many parents reported that Ms. B. used a stick to hit students' hands hard when they were doing the wrong thing or not teaching. "Even if our children are not good at studying, they need to be disciplined with appropriate words and methods, they cannot be taught by violence," a parent was upset.
