Over the past four years, two schools, Quang Giao Primary School and Quang Giao Secondary School (in Quang Giao Commune, Quang Xuong District, Thanh Hoa Province) have been abandoned and unused, causing the facilities to deteriorate and weeds to grow wildly.
Actual records at Quang Giao Secondary School show that currently the 2-storey classroom block, the administrative building, the toilets and many other items in the school grounds have been seriously degraded. Not only is it abandoned, the school has also become a garbage dump, with classrooms filled with scraps of cloth and straw.
This school is located right next to a residential area, with an area of thousands of square meters. Currently, the school yard has also become a place for cattle to graze, looking very shabby.
Not far from Quang Giao Secondary School, Quang Giao Primary School is in a similar situation. Two rows of 2-storey buildings are abandoned, with facilities severely degraded. Some areas of the school grounds are being used by local people as storage and production workshops.
Discussing the above incident, Mr. Pham Van Binh - Chairman of the People's Committee of Quang Giao commune, Quang Xuong district - said that the reason why the two schools above have been abandoned for many years is because in 2020, after Nguyen Xuan Nguyen High School in the area was dissolved, the locality established an inter-level school named Nguyen Xuan Nguyen Primary School and Secondary School (merging Quang Giao Secondary School and Primary School).
Explaining why these two schools were abandoned and then turned into garbage dumps and used by people as production and business facilities, Mr. Binh said that because the locality did not have the funds to hire caretakers, they temporarily lent them to people to use as storage and use a small part of the area, thereby asking people to look after them.
According to the representative of Quang Giao commune, according to the plan, the old Quang Giao Secondary School will be used as the commune police headquarters and the commune health station. The old Quang Giao Primary School will be used as a local cultural area.
According to statistics from the People's Committee of Quang Xuong district, there are currently 23 surplus real estate facilities in the district. Up to now, no offices or real estate have been processed and all the buildings are in a state of disuse. The total land area of the 23 abandoned facilities is more than 77,800 m2.
