Three traffic jam black spots on Hanoi's main roads await "rescue"

HỮU CHÁNH |

Hanoi - The main road connecting Ha Dong district with Thanh Tri district currently has 3 black spots of traffic congestion waiting for a project worth nearly 5,500 billion VND to "rescue".

Provincial Road 70 (Ha Dong - Van Dien section) plays an important role in the economy and society of Hanoi in general and the southern area of the city in particular.

When Ring Road 4 has not been formed and Ring Road 3.5 has not been completed, Provincial Road 70 acts as an axis for inter-provincial traffic transiting through Hanoi, connecting radial national highways such as National Highway 32, National Highway 6, National Highway 1A and Lang - Hoa Lac Road.

Lao Dong's actual observations at the end of December show that the rapid urban development, many new housing areas, along with the hospital and school systems, often cause traffic jams on Provincial Road 70, Ha Dong - Van Dien section.

On Highway 70, the Ha Dong - Van Dien section has three serious traffic jams during rush hour, such as in front of Tan Trieu K Hospital gate, the intersection between Highway 70 and Pham Tu. Recently, there has been an additional section across To Bridge (intersection of Kim Giang - Phan Trong Tue).

"These are black spots of congestion on Provincial Road 70 that have not been cleared for many years. During rush hour or on rainy days, the congestion here becomes even more serious, and it takes people dozens of minutes to get out of the congestion" - said Mr. Hoang Van Dong (33 years old, Ha Dong, Hanoi).

Mr. Dong, who often travels here, calls Highway 70 the "road of death" in Hanoi. Driving next to containers and trucks makes everyone nervous that accidents can happen at any time.

"In addition to serious accidents, minor collisions between vehicles happen "every day" on this road. It is really worrying when I have to travel on this road every day to get to work," said Mr. Dong.

It is forecasted that in the coming time, traffic volume on the route will continue to increase, so people are looking forward to the project to renovate and upgrade the road to be implemented soon.

According to the reporter's investigation, in the period of 2024 - 2026, Hanoi will expand Provincial Road 70, Ha Dong - Van Dien section, 7.08km long, with an investment capital of nearly 5,500 billion VND from the city budget.

The starting point of the project connects with Nguyen Khuyen Street in Van Quan urban area, the end point is at Tu Hiep intersection (connecting with the route connecting Phap Van - Cau Gie with Ring Road 3).

According to preliminary statistics, 355,828 square meters of land (Ha Dong 14,996.19 square meters, Thanh Tri about 340,832.14 square meters) will be recovered to implement the project.

In addition to the synchronous construction of construction items, the project has invested in 3 more bridges on the route, including building a new bridge over To Lich River and National Highway 1A, building a new bridge over Hoa Binh River, and expanding To Bridge over To Lich River.

On the project route, there are 2 different level intersections including the intersection with the 53.4m wide planned road (connecting Ring Road 3 - Ring Road 4) and the intersection with the old National Road 1A in Thanh Tri district.

Provincial Road 70, Ha Dong - Van Dien section, after being expanded, will have a cross-section of 50m, helping to reduce traffic pressure on the southern gateway routes of the city, synchronizing traffic infrastructure, contributing to the socio-economic development of the capital.
