Hanoi - After 15 months of construction, some items of the project to build a railway and road bridge across the Duong River, with a capital of nearly 1,850 billion VND, have taken shape.
In July 2023, the Ministry of Transport (MOT) started construction of two railway bridges and a road bridge across the Duong River (part of the Duong River waterway transport upgrade project), replacing the old Duong Bridge for joint railway and road operations.
The Duong River waterway upgrade project is located in Thuong Thanh and Duc Giang wards (Long Bien district) and Yen Vien town (Gia Lam district, Hanoi).
The project has a total investment of more than 1,840 billion VND, of which the cost of site clearance in phase one is 650 billion VND, with the Railway Project Management Board (Ministry of Transport) as the investor.
On September 5, 2023, the contractor began construction at the site. According to the contract between the investor and the contractor, the project will be constructed in 840 days (28 months), expected to be completed in early 2026.
At the time of the project’s commencement, the Ministry of Transport’s leaders said that the old railway bridge had low clearance, which was a bottleneck on the waterway from Hai Phong to Viet Tri. The railway bridge shared the road, causing potential traffic jams and accidents.
When completed, Duong railway bridge will increase the capacity of waterway transport on waterway corridor No. 1, ensuring safety for waterway vehicles and helping the railway run smoothly.
Separating the road bridge from the railway bridge also improves traffic conditions connecting across the Duong River on the northern arterial route of Hanoi.
Hanoi - The current bridge system over the Red River in Hanoi's inner city is currently suffering from traffic volume many times greater than its original design. Meanwhile, the plan to start construction of new bridges such as Tu Lien and Tran Hung Dao has not yet been clearly implemented.
