On January 1, Lao Dong Electronic Newspaper published an article "Suffocating from the pungent smoke of an open-air landfill in Nam Dinh", reflecting on the landfill near Phu An village (Cat Thanh town, Truc Ninh district) which is often burned, producing pungent smoke, causing environmental pollution.
According to local residents, the garbage has been smoldering for days, the smell of the garbage is pungent, and the smoke has drifted into residential areas and fields where people are cultivating. Especially on the Ninh Co river embankment, the smoke has covered the road, and vehicles on the opposite side cannot even be seen. The smoke and garbage have seriously affected people's lives and health.
Immediately after receiving the reflection of Lao Dong Newspaper, Mr. Nguyen Quang Thao - Permanent Vice Chairman of Truc Ninh District People's Committee (Nam Dinh Province) - said that the district has requested Cat Thanh town to focus on handling the environmental pollution from the landfill in the town according to the content of the reflection of the Newspaper.
On January 7, speaking with Lao Dong Newspaper reporters, Mr. Nguyen Duc Ngoc - Vice Chairman of Cat Thanh Town People's Committee - informed: "After Lao Dong Newspaper reported, on January 1, we urgently hired an excavator to put out the fire and bury the site. As of today (January 7), the town's landfill has been basically treated and partially buried."
Previously, on January 2, the People's Committee of Cat Thanh town sent an official dispatch to Lao Dong Newspaper regarding the results of overcoming the existing problems according to the content reflected by the Newspaper.
"The Lao Dong Newspaper's reflection on the open-air landfill in Cat Thanh town that is regularly burned, causing thick smoke, the town's People's Committee leaders have seriously received and directed to remedy the above situation. All information reflected by Lao Dong Newspaper will be thoroughly remedied, bringing a clean environment to people's lives," the document stated.
