The Can Tho - Ca Mau Expressway was started in January 2023, with a length of more than 110km, with a total investment of more than VND 27,500 billion. The project is divided into two component projects including the Can Tho - Hau Giang section (more than 37km) and the Hau Giang - Ca Mau section (more than 73km).
According to Lao Dong Newspaper reporters at Lo Da Bridge located in the Can Tho - Hau Giang Expressway section, in Vi Thuy District, Hau Giang Province, on New Year's Day, January 1, 2025, at the construction site, there were many workers, engineers, equipment and machinery focused on working on items such as leveling the ground, assembling iron for the bridge abutment to prepare for pouring concrete, etc.
After two years of working on the construction site and in the bridge construction team, Mr. Nguyen Van Thanh (52 years old, Ha Tinh province) shared that during the last and first days of the year, the workload was very heavy, so the workers and engineers had to continuously work overtime to regain progress, because before that it was the rainy season so the construction encountered many difficulties.
“Having received information that the Can Tho – Ca Mau Expressway must be completed by the end of this year (December 31, 2025), our brothers and sisters always try their best and work hard to achieve progress and soon bring the expressway to the finish line. When the expressway is completed and put into operation, the people of the West will be happy one, and we will be ten times happier. Because we have contributed a small part to the country’s development. In addition, this is also an opportunity for the Mekong Delta region to develop more and more,” Mr. Thanh happily said when asked about his determination to complete the expressway.
According to Mr. Nguyen Van Thanh, on the first day of the New Year, the bridge construction team still has to maintain work to ensure progress, but will not work overtime. Instead, the team will give up this overtime so that workers and engineers can celebrate Tet.
Having worked at the highway construction site for about a year now, Mr. Huynh Trung (35 years old, Quang Binh province) said that doing manual work is the hardest, especially on hot and humid days, when workers have to rest constantly. However, recently, the weather has been very pleasant, and the workers have been mobilized to work overtime and shift shifts regularly.
“Although we often have to work overtime, sometimes late at night, the company does not abandon us. We are always encouraged by the company and given extra overtime. Every time we are encouraged like that, we promise ourselves that we must always try our best to complete the goals set by the unit,” Trung said excitedly.
Lieutenant Colonel Vu Hong Quan - Deputy Director of Truong Son Nam Management Board - informed that he is currently in charge of the construction site of the Km49 - 53 section of the Can Tho - Hau Giang Expressway project. Up to this point, the project is accelerating its progress to complete by the end of 2025. The unit is focusing all its human and material resources to ensure the construction meets the requirements of the project's progress and quality.
According to Mr. Quan, in terms of human resources, there are about 200 engineers and workers at the construction site, who can synchronously deploy items from bridges, culverts, and weak ground treatment.
“At the construction site, we have to divide into 3 shifts and 4 teams to work continuously, including holidays and days off. Even in the new year 2025, the construction site is still operating normally to ensure the requirements and progress set out.
For our brothers at the construction site who work with high intensity and large volume, we always encourage their spirit. In particular, we will check in overtime for our brothers to increase their income. There are meals during shifts, and on holidays, we can increase their salary and food allowance, ensuring that their health is always maintained to complete their tasks well", the Deputy Director of the Executive Board of Truong Son Nam clearly stated.
Lieutenant Colonel Vu Hong Quan emphasized: "As a military unit, we affirm that once assigned a task, everyone must be determined and united to best complete the assigned task."
