According to the reporter of Lao Dong Newspaper on November 5, with the remaining Phong Chau bridge (sections with steel trusses and other structures), Phung Nguyen commune side still has spans 1 to 5 with a total length of about 210 m; Van Xuan commune side still has about 20 m.
According to observations, the remaining parts of Phong Chau bridge from top to bottom still have full items such as railings, lighting, bridge deck, steel beams, reinforced concrete beam structures, bridge piers, and bridge abutments.
Previously, after a survey, the authorities determined that span N5 was tilted outwards towards the Red River (with signs of subsidence at pier T6); spans 2, 3, and 4 showed signs of being twisted and tilted in the direction of the Red River's flow, and the expansion joints (connecting spans) were stretched much further than the original design.
To serve the demolition and clearance of the remaining parts of Phong Chau bridge, and prepare the necessary conditions to start construction of the new Phong Chau bridge (to be started in December 2024), the authorities have completed the site preparation, and some equipment and machinery have been brought to the site.
As reported, after the collapse of Phong Chau bridge on September 9, the authorities have salvaged the entire N7 span along with many structures and vehicles under the river; they are currently working to bring N6 span from the river to shore (in the middle of the river, about 50 meters downstream from the bridge).
