Vice Chairman of Da Nang City People's Committee Tran Nam Hung has just signed and issued a Decision approving the project to renovate and upgrade National Highway 14D. Implementation time is 2025-2027. The project aims to overcome the serious degradation of the arterial road connecting the border gate area with the main traffic axes and central seaports.
According to the decision, National Highway 14D has its starting point intersecting with Ho Chi Minh Road at Km1332+610, Ben Giang commune, and the ending point at Km72+700, adjacent to Nam Giang border gate, La De commune. The total length of the entire route is 65.37 km. The section from Km72+700 to Km74+376 belongs to another project invested by the Quang Nam Provincial Construction Investment Project Management Board.
National Highway 14D has long played the role of a strategic traffic axis, connecting Nam Giang international border gate with National Highway 1A and the central region's seaport system. However, the route is often subject to a high density of heavy trucks carrying bauxite ore and raw wood materials. High traffic volume and heavy loads cause the road surface structure to deteriorate rapidly, creating many risks of traffic unsafety.
Reality shows that many sections of road surface have been heavily damaged. Holes and craters appear densely. After rain, deep water-filled pits obscure visibility, posing a risk of accidents. Dust arising during traffic directly affects the lives of people along the route, and at the same time reduces the quality of the local environment.
The investment in renovating and upgrading National Highway 14D is expected to fundamentally solve long-standing problems. The project not only aims to restore the road surface, improve load-bearing capacity but also contributes to ensuring traffic safety, reducing transportation costs, and improving the operational efficiency of the route.
Transparent National Highway 14D will better meet the needs of goods transportation through border gates, strengthen inter-regional connectivity, and support socio-economic development in border and mountainous areas. The project is also expected to create motivation to promote trade, logistics and attract investment, thereby promoting the role of a key route in the central region's transportation network.
