On the afternoon of January 6, Deputy Prime Minister Tran Hong Ha chaired the Conference to summarize the work of ensuring traffic order and safety in 2025 and deploy directions and tasks for 2026.
Speaking at the opening of the conference, Deputy Prime Minister Tran Hong Ha emphasized: "Traffic accidents are still a major problem, directly affecting the lives and property of the people, social safety and the sustainable development of the country.
Although the number of traffic accidents tends to decrease, the risk of accidents for all types of traffic is still high.
It is time for the National Traffic Safety Committee and local Traffic Safety Committees to seriously consider it.
Why do we mobilize such a large inter-ministerial, inter-sectoral, and inter-local force, but the problem that has existed for many years has not been resolved satisfactorily, has not met the legitimate expectations of each citizen, that is, when stepping out of the house, everyone hopes to return safely," the Deputy Prime Minister raised the issue.
Reporting at the conference, Mr. Le Kim Thanh - Standing Vice Chairman of the National Traffic Safety Committee - said that traffic accidents have decreased significantly in all 3 criteria, overcoming the increase in the number of cases and the number of injuries in 2024; common violations previously such as using alcohol, speeding, and running red lights tend to decrease significantly.
From December 15, 2024 to December 14, 2025, there were 18,601 traffic accidents, killing 10,491 people and injuring 12,312 people (including 27 particularly serious cases, killing 96 people and injuring 74 people).
Compared to the same period in 2024, there was a decrease of 5,312 cases, a decrease of 711 deaths, and a decrease of 5,259 injuries," said Mr. Le Kim Thanh.
Regarding the traffic accident situation by locality, Mr. Le Kim Thanh said that 25/34 provinces and cities have a decrease in the number of deaths from traffic accidents compared to 2024, of which 4 localities have a decrease of over 20% in the number of deaths (Quang Ninh, Da Nang, Quang Ngai, Lao Cai). Ca Mau province has a 42% increase in the number of deaths from traffic accidents.
Regarding handling traffic order and safety violations, the Traffic Police force has handled 3.39 million cases of traffic order and safety violations (road, rail and waterway).
Functional forces fined more than 6.8 trillion VND; revoked more than 215 thousand driver's licenses, diplomas, professional certificates; deducted points from driver's licenses in more than 390 thousand cases; temporarily seized more than 840 thousand vehicles of all kinds.
Compared to the same period in 2024, handling decreased by more than 908 thousand cases, and fines decreased by 1 trillion VND.
Regarding vehicle registration, management and inspection, Mr. Le Kim Thanh assessed that it is organized tightly, the number of newly registered vehicles continues to increase (in 2025 it is over 590 thousand cars, 2.6 million motorbikes; raising the total number of registered vehicles to nearly 7.5 million cars, more than 79 million motorbikes); license plate auction work brings in large revenue for the State budget (in 2025 it is over 5 trillion VND/140 thousand car and motorbike license plates).
In the past year, there have also been 53 traffic congestion cases; 108 cases of resisting traffic police on duty, causing 1 comrade to die, 46 comrades to be injured; 97 cases of gatherings driving speeding, swerving, causing public disorder, arresting 1,014 subjects," Mr. Le Kim Thanh informed.
