At the Workshop "Building the Da Nang urban railway system: Vision, challenges and sustainable solutions" organized by the Da Nang City People's Committee this morning, October 24, Vice Chairman of the City People's Committee - Le Quang Nam said that the planning orientation of the Da Nang urban railway system will include 16 routes, a total length of 294 km, connecting important locations inside and outside the city. In the first phase, Da Nang prioritizes investment in 2 routes: the route connecting Da Nang - Hoi An - Tam Ky - Chu Lai international airport and the route connecting the high-speed railway station with the central urban railway station.
According to the plan, urban railways will be the "backbone" of the smart transportation system, synchronously integrated with express buses, electric buses, public bicycles, connecting areas such as Lien Chieu Port, airports, administrative centers, schools, hospitals, tourist areas and industrial parks.

Experts at the workshop said that the urban railway project is a large-scale infrastructure project that needs to be planned synchronously and carefully prepared. The selection of technical standards, site clearance, and relocation of underground infrastructure must be calculated in detail, and the operating team needs to be trained promptly to ensure safety and efficiency of exploitation.
Experience from large cities such as Seoul, Tokyo, Singapore or Bangkok shows that urban railways not only help reduce congestion and pollution, but also create momentum for socio-economic development, expand modern and sustainable urban space.
Vice Chairman Le Quang Nam also said that the metro system will be designed so that each inner-city point is no more than 500 m away from the station and the suburbs are no more than 2 km away. The city aims to develop green, smart public transport, connect regions, and turn Da Nang into an ecological and modern city in the near future.
