People need to know the progress of Tu Lien bridge
Lao Dong newspaper recently published an article "Red River overpass buckles under the strain of overload" reflecting the current situation of the Red River overpass system in Hanoi's inner city area currently having to withstand traffic volume many times greater than its original design.
The record also shows that the capital's people's wish is to build new bridges, both to reduce traffic pressure and increase regional connectivity, promoting local socio-economic development.
Recently, in a petition sent after the 14th session of the Hanoi People's Council, voters requested that the city provide specific information about the Tu Lien bridge construction project so that people know about the planning, design, and implementation time of this project.
Responding to this content, the Hanoi People's Committee said that according to the planning, the Tu Lien bridge project is located on the main urban axis north of the Red River with a length of about 4.84km, with 5 intersections (Nghi Tam, Huu Hong, Bai Giua, Ta Hong and the extended National Highway 5).
The City People's Committee assigned the City Traffic Construction Investment Project Management Board to organize the preparation of the project Feasibility Study Report according to Decision No. 4098/QD-UBND dated October 28, 2022.
Currently, the City Traffic Construction Investment Project Management Board is organizing investment preparation work.
In fact, Tu Lien Bridge is identified as one of the key transport infrastructure projects in Hanoi in the period of 2021 - 2025.
According to the design, Tu Lien bridge connects the west bank of the Red River along Au Co - Nghi Tam route in Yen Phu and Tu Lien wards (Tay Ho district) with the east bank of the Red River in Dong Anh district.
The construction of a bridge in the inner city across the Red River is expected to help reduce traffic congestion on routes from the inner city to the northern provinces; reduce population density in the city center, and contribute to the sustainable development of the capital.
Creating momentum for the development of the city on both banks of the Red River
Besides Tu Lien Bridge, Tran Hung Dao Bridge connecting Hoan Kiem, Hai Ba Trung and Long Bien districts is also considered one of the urgent projects to solve the overload situation of some bridges over the Red River in the inner city.
Speaking to the press, urban planning expert - Architect Pham Thanh Tung - acknowledged that Tran Hung Dao Bridge has a very important position because it contributes to connecting the left and right banks of Hanoi, while upgrading the capital's traffic infrastructure in a modern direction for development.
The bridge will significantly reduce traffic pressure on many other bridges in the city, creating favorable conditions for the development of the eastern part of the city along with Vinh Tuy 1 and Vinh Tuy 2 bridges. At the same time, it will contribute to the development of urban areas on the other side of the Red River and create momentum for the development of the city on both banks of the Red River according to Hanoi's general planning.
According to Dr. Architect Truong Ngoc Lan (Faculty of Architecture and Planning, Hanoi University of Civil Engineering), previously only the west bank of the Red River was focused on development. In the future, the role of bridges will become more and more important, making the city a seamless, clearer urban space.
Speaking with Lao Dong, Dr. Architect Dao Ngoc Nghiem also acknowledged that, along with expanding the inner city, building bridges will help reduce traffic pressure, reduce population in the historic inner city, exploit potential and advantages of land, and transform the economic structure (craft villages, industry, etc.).
These bridges will help connect the road network with the entire northern region. In addition, when new bridges are formed, not only the areas adjacent to the bridge but also the areas surrounding the bridge will have positive changes.
Hanoi will build 10 more bridges across the Red River.
Hanoi currently has 8 bridges across the Red River including: Thang Long, Chuong Duong, Vinh Tuy (phase 1, 2), Thanh Tri, Nhat Tan, Vinh Thinh, Long Bien, Van Lang. Of which, there are 6 bridges in the inner city districts of Hanoi.
According to the latest statistics from the Hanoi Department of Transport, some bridges are carrying traffic many times more than their original design.
A typical example is Chuong Duong Bridge across the Red River, connecting Hoan Kiem and Long Bien districts, which was completed in 1985. Every day, the bridge receives nearly 100,000 vehicles, 8 times more than its design.
Thanh Tri Bridge is also carrying more than 121,000 vehicles per day and night, many times more than its design.
To meet practical development needs, the Transport Planning to 2030, with a vision to 2050 approved by the Prime Minister, Hanoi will build 10 more bridges across the Red River, meeting the traffic needs of the capital as well as inter-regional traffic connections.
