In November 2021, Hanoi started construction of a flyover at the Chua Boc - Pham Ngoc Thach intersection to solve traffic congestion at one of the central intersections of Dong Da district.
This is where many schools, shopping centers, service buildings... are concentrated, densely populated and bustling in Hanoi.
The bridge is more than 300m long, 9m wide, organizing two-way traffic for two mixed lanes (cars and motorbikes) with an investment capital of 150 billion VND, from the Hanoi city budget.
In addition, within the scope of Chua Boc Street, about 400m of sidewalk will be cut to widen the road surface, widen the intersection and reinforce the old road surface, and build a new pavement structure for the expansion.
In which, the sidewalk on the Banking Academy side is 360m long, 2-6m wide depending on the location combined with the expansion of the Chua Boc - Tay Son intersection; the sidewalk on the opposite side is more than 100m long, 2.5m wide.
According to the plan, the project was completed and put into operation in June 2022. However, due to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic and difficulties in moving underground works, the project's opening date has been postponed to June 30, 2023.
In August 2024, Hanoi completed the Chua Boc - Thai Ha Intersection Construction Investment Project. The project was approved by the Hanoi People's Committee in 2014 and approved for adjustment in 2017 and 2020.
The project has a total investment of over 535 billion VND, of which over 470 billion VND is for site clearance; the area is about 0.98ha, from the gate of the Banking Academy through the intersection, then to Tay Son street (towards Nam Dong), ending at the gate of the Trade Union University.
Up to now, the Chua Boc road surface in the intersection has been widened to 23 - 30m, the section from Chua Boc to the intersection is 16 - 18m wide, the sidewalk is 3m wide on average.
According to Lao Dong's report on November 12, after completion, the above two projects have contributed to reducing traffic congestion and increasing traffic capacity in the most pressured area in Dong Da district.
People living here said that after the Chua Boc - Pham Ngoc Thach overpass was completed and the Chua Boc - Thai Ha intersection was expanded, this area has significantly reduced traffic congestion during rush hour.
"With the new bridge and expanded road surface, people can move more conveniently. There is no longer the crowded scene in the early morning and late afternoon on Chua Boc street like before," said Mr. Le Van Manh (34 years old, Kim Lien, Dong Da).
