On December 19, Vietnam Railways Corporation (Vren) officially put into synchronous operation 162 passenger carriages that were upgraded and completely renovated, with a total investment of more than 60 billion VND.
This activity is part of a series of emulation projects to celebrate the 79th anniversary of the National Resistance Day and the 14th National Congress of the Party. Vietnam Airlines Corporation simultaneously inaugurated the project "Currently modernizing carriages to serve passengers on the national railway system" and implemented two projects on digital transformation and green transformation, including: Chatbot application, Voice chat applying AI technology in customer care; testing B5 bio-diesel diesel fuel on the D12E locomotive on the Hanoi - Hai Phong route.

The operation of 162 carriages was carried out during a construction period of about 3 months, marking the efforts of the railway industry in improving the quality of passenger transport services. Immediately after the inauguration ceremony, trains SE5 (in Hanoi) and SE6 (in Ho Chi Minh City) with a new look officially rolled on the Thong Nhat railway line. The remaining carriages will continue to be arranged on trains SE1/2, SE3/4, SE7/8 and SE19/20, serving the peak of transportation for the Lunar New Year 2026.

The modernization project focuses on four main groups of items, including interior renovation, upgrading the sanitation area - washroom, applying noise protection solutions and improving the lighting system. The carriages have been replaced with new material walls, upgraded all sanitary equipment, installed with anti-vibration and anti-noise structures, and upgraded lighting, air conditioning and electronic information boards, to bring more comfortable and friendly space to passengers.
The completion and operation of 162 carriages not only contributes to improving service quality and enhancing passenger experience, but also helps improve safety and stability in operation, reducing arising repair costs.

According to Mr. Hoang Gia Khanh - General Director of Vietnam railway Corporation, these are important premises for the railway industry to aim for double-digit growth in 2026 and the following years, while affirming its determination to innovate, transform digitally and develop in a green and sustainable direction.
