The Hanoi urban railway project, Line 5, Van Cao - Ngoc Khanh - Lang - Hoa Lac, has a total length of 39.585km. Of which, 6.56km is underground and 5.21km is elevated, 27.815km is on land.
Urban railway line No. 5 has 20 stations (6 underground stations, 12 ground stations and 2 elevated stations; of which, 8 stations are designed as transit stations).
Route 5 has 2 Deposits: Depot 1 in Son Dong and Duong Hoa communes; Depot 2 in Hoa Lac commune. The maximum design speed is 120km/h (tonel section 90km/h).
The starting point of the project is at the Van Cao road intersection with Hoang Hoa Tham; ending at S20 station (in Hoa Lac commune and Yen Xuan commune). The underground route section inside Ring Road 3; the section along Thang Long Avenue will be converted to floating and traveling at high altitudes.
Urban railway line No. 5 passes through 9 wards and 10 communes.
The project is invested by the Hanoi Urban Railway Management Board with a total investment of VND 72,300 billion.
The formed route No. 5 will connect and transit passengers with urban railway lines No. 2, 3, 4, 6, 7, 8, allowing passengers to move quickly and conveniently from suburban areas to the city center.
Expected to be completed and put into operation before 2030, this route is expected to create a driving force for comprehensive development of the western region, as well as meet the travel, study and research needs of students and lecturers.
According to the plan, by 2045, with a vision to 2025, Hanoi will have 15 urban railway lines with a total length of 617km.
