Today (January 1, 2026), the first day of the New Year holiday 2026 lasting 4 days, the traffic situation in the Capital is basically stable. Inner-city traffic is smooth, and light congestion appears on the gateway roads.
Records of Lao Dong Newspaper reporters show that the number of people flocking to entertainment venues in the central area of the Capital such as Dong Kinh Nghia Thuc Square, Hoan Kiem Lake pedestrian street, Thang Long Imperial Citadel area, Thong Nhat Park... has increased compared to normal days. However, the flow of people and vehicles has increased but no prolonged congestion has been recorded.

On many inner-city roads such as Thanh Nien, Dien Bien Phu, Ly Thuong Kiet... traffic is smooth. Vehicle parking activities in amusement parks and parks are generally stable, and no disorder occurs.
At the gateway routes, traffic volume increased sharply. On Vo Chi Cong street towards Nhat Tan bridge and Pham Van Dong street towards Thang Long bridge, cars were more crowded than usual, slight congestion appeared, and vehicles moved slowly.

Meanwhile, at some traffic "hot spots" such as Ring Road 3, Thang Long Avenue, Phap Van - Cau Gie expressway, long lines of vehicles line up to leave the Capital, slow travel speed but no serious congestion has occurred.
According to Mr. Le Van Tuan (resident in Tam Diep, Ninh Binh), although the number of vehicles participating in traffic is quite large, moving is generally convenient. "There are sections where vehicles only move about 20 km/h due to the large number of vehicles, but on the route there are always functional forces on duty, diverting traffic, so there is no prolonged congestion," Mr. Tuan said.
To serve people to have fun and celebrate the 2026 New Year safely and civilized, Hanoi City Police had previously proactively developed plans and synchronously deployed plans to ensure security and order, focusing on key areas, crowded areas, gateway traffic routes and the capital's center.

Accordingly, the Traffic Police force of Hanoi City Police coordinates with the police of wards and security and order forces at the grassroots level to survey the field, review roads, develop long-distance traffic diversion plans; arrange forces to regulate at key intersections, areas with potential congestion risks. At the same time, strengthen reminders and handle violations of urban order such as sidewalk encroachment, street vendors, and illegal vehicle parking.
Functional forces also focus on inspecting and strictly handling violating parking lots and points, resolutely rectifying the situation of unlicensed parking, illegal toll collection, encroachment on roads and sidewalks, causing unsightliness and potential risks of unsafety.

At My Dinh Bus Station, although the number of passengers increased sharply on the first day of the holiday, there was no jostling or pushing. Representatives of the bus station said that transport units were required to prepare complete dossiers, electronic tickets, register ticket prices and commit not to arbitrarily increase prices, not to collect money exceeding the listed level to ensure the rights of passengers.
To meet travel needs, My Dinh Bus Station has developed a plan to increase about 70-90 bus trips, arranging vehicles at the right time, on the right route with high demand. Vehicles that do not meet technical conditions, carry overload, carry prohibited goods, and dangerous goods are not allowed to leave the station. In particular, drivers must check alcohol concentration and drug use before leaving the station; violations will be strictly handled and immediately suspended.
Most cars are fully booked when departing. However, according to Mr. Le Ngoc Quang - driver of the Tuyen Quang - My Dinh route, the number of passengers this year, although more than usual, has decreased compared to previous years. The main reason is the competition from contract cars and limousine cars operating around the station area.
Representatives of Vietnam Infrastructure Development and Financial Investment Corporation - JSC (VIDIFI) said that the unit has developed a plan to ensure safety and smooth operation at toll stations during the holidays, arranged full personnel on duty at lanes, and promptly supported vehicles in distress.
At the same time, representatives of Phap Van - Cau Gie BOT Joint Stock Company also said that the unit has mobilized maximum resources, proactively implemented solutions to handle arising situations; and coordinated to divide lanes and traffic flows, ensuring no congestion at the toll station. On the first day of the holiday, vehicles circulated smoothly, and no congestion was recorded.
According to Ms. Nguyen Thi Ngoc Trang - Deputy General Director of Vietnam Digital Transport Joint Stock Company (ePass), up to now, most of VDTC's customers have completed the conversion of toll accounts to traffic accounts. Currently, there are only about 200,000 out of a total of more than 2.5 million ePass customers who have not converted, mainly cases that do not generate transactions through toll stations in recent months.
