On January 2, 2025, the first working day after the 2025 New Year holiday, all roads in Hanoi became crowded again. By nearly 9:00 a.m., many roads such as Khuat Duy Tien, Lang, and Pham Hung were still congested at some points.
According to Lao Dong Newspaper reporters, at the multi-level intersection of Nguyen Trai - Khuat Duy Tien (Thanh Xuan District), early in the morning, the working group of Road Traffic Police Team No. 7 (Traffic Police Department, Hanoi City Police) deployed forces and coordinated with other forces to organize traffic flow and regulation.
Although the number of vehicles passing through the intersection is large, there is no chaos at the intersection. Notably, people's compliance with traffic laws has improved significantly.
The Nguyen Trai - Khuat Duy Tien intersection has recently become "famous" for the situation of traffic participants not obeying traffic lights, driving in the wrong direction...
However, according to the working group of Road Traffic Police Team No. 7, after yesterday (January 1, 2025), the traffic police force across the city increased the handling of violations according to the provisions of the Law on Road Traffic Order and Safety and Decree 168/2024 (effective from January 1, 2025), the number of violations has decreased significantly.
Besides, in the process of handling violations, the traffic police force also combines propaganda to raise people's awareness.
"The fines for violations such as not obeying traffic lights and going the wrong way have been increased significantly compared to Decree 100/2019, for both cars and motorbikes. After understanding the regulations, people have complied better, resulting in a significant decrease in violations," said Major Dang Tran Hung, an officer of Traffic Police Team No. 7.
However, during the performance of their duties, the working group of Traffic Police Team No. 7 still discovered a number of violations.
As in the case of Mr. N.C.N (born 2005, student) driving a motorbike in the wrong direction on Nguyen Xien Street towards the Nguyen Trai - Khuat Duy Tien intersection, he was discovered by the authorities and stopped for inspection.
In his statement to the authorities, Mr. N said that he followed the instructions on Google Maps and then realized he had gone the wrong way, so he intended to go the opposite way to turn back quickly.
"I just got home from work, intending to go back to Tran Cung but got lost here. I was also subjective, only planning to go in the opposite direction for a short distance and then turn onto Khuat Duy Tien street," Mr. N.C.N shared.
For driving in the wrong direction on a one-way street, Mr. N will be fined 4 - 6 million VND and have 2 points deducted from his driver's license.
In the case of Mr. T.T.T (Hanoi), he ran a red light in the direction of Nguyen Trai - Khuat Duy Tien. In his statement to the authorities, Mr. T said that because the road was crowded, he saw some people passing him so he followed.
When he learned that the fine for his violation was from 4 million to 6 million VND, and that 4 points would be deducted from his driving license, Mr. T said he was very confused.
"The fine is too high, this is an expensive lesson for myself, from now on I will always strictly comply with the Law", Mr. T.T.T shared.
Most of the violators were aware of their violations and promised not to repeat them.
According to Colonel Tran Dinh Nghia - Head of the Traffic Police Department, Hanoi City Police, increasing the penalty level is not only to increase deterrence but also to strictly handle intentional violations, contributing to restoring traffic order.
Along with increasing the handling of violations, Hanoi Traffic Police will step up patrolling, controlling and implementing many propaganda activities to raise people's awareness of obeying traffic laws.
These synchronous measures not only aim to reduce traffic accidents but also aim to build a safe and civilized traffic environment.
