Recently, traffic participants through the central roads of Dong Hoi ward (Quang Tri province) have encountered many difficulties when some intersections with traffic lights operate unstably, even stop operating.
Recorded at the Tran Quang Khai - Ly Nam De intersection, for many days, all 4 directions of traffic lights have not worked. During peak hours, vehicles from many directions move simultaneously through the intersection but lack regulation, forcing road users to actively observe and yield to each other.
This situation slows down the flow of vehicles, sometimes causing localized congestion. Traffic participants have to "move inch by inch" to pass the intersection, posing a risk of collision if not observed.
According to people's reflections, the traffic light incident here has lasted for about half a month but has not been thoroughly resolved, affecting daily travel, especially during peak hours.
Mr. Hoang Dai Nghia (42 years old, resident of Dong Hoi ward) said: "Every time I pass by here, I see a lot of traffic, it is very dangerous if there are no traffic lights. I propose that functional agencies soon repair it so that people can travel conveniently and safely when participating in traffic.
Not only at the Tran Quang Khai - Ly Nam De intersection, about 200m away, the Tran Quang Khai - Hai Ba Trung intersection also recorded a similar situation when the traffic light system in all 4 directions was not operating for many days.
At rush hour, when traffic volume increases, the lack of regulating signals makes many people confused in determining their direction. There are many cases where they have to stop in the middle of the intersection to observe, causing localized congestion.
Repeated situation
Mr. Tran Tuong Tam (65 years old, resident of Dong Hoi ward) said that at the Tran Quang Khai - Hai Ba Trung intersection, traffic lights have stopped working for about 2 days recently.
“Before that, when it rained, the lights were also often flickering. People have complained, but the remediation is not stable. We hope to repair it soon to ensure safety,” Mr. Tam suggested.
Sharing the same view, Ms. Duong Thi Lien (65 years old, a resident of Dong Hoi ward) said that the situation of repeatedly damaged traffic lights causing inconvenience to pedestrians needs to be resolved thoroughly soon.
In addition, at the Nguyen Trai - Nguyen Huu Canh intersection, the traffic light system also operates unstablely. The time display does not work, the signal changes suddenly, causing difficulties for traffic participants in handling situations.
People said that the lack of traffic lights not only causes inconvenience but also creates psychological pressure when traveling through traffic junctions with many vehicles. Especially during peak hours or when it rains, visibility is limited, and the risk of collision is very high.
Talking to Lao Dong Newspaper, Senior Lieutenant Colonel Hoang Van Trung - Head of the Traffic Police Department of Quang Tri Provincial Police said that the unit is reviewing the entire traffic light system in the area to promptly propose remedial measures. Currently, the Traffic Police Department is proposing to the Department of Construction to propose to the Provincial People's Committee to repair the damaged traffic light positions.
