The Ministry of Transport said that a provincial road in An Giang could become a national highway in the near future.

Voters in An Giang province proposed to consider upgrading Provincial Road 941, An Giang province to National Highway N2 to develop the local transport infrastructure system, contributing to promoting socio-economic development.

Responding to this issue, the Ministry of Transport said that the Prime Minister has approved the planning of An Giang province for the period 2021 - 2030, with a vision to 2050, in Decision No. 1369/QD-TTg dated November 15, 2023.

According to the report of the Vietnam Road Administration, route N2 (according to the plan), the section passing through An Giang province is 57.6km long, starting at Lo Te intersection and ending at Kien Giang province, with the expected scale of a level IV road from 2 to 4 lanes.

According to the plan, Route N2 will be formed on Provincial Road 941 in Chau Thanh district, Tri Ton district and Provincial Road 958 in Tri Ton district.

Therefore, the Ministry of Transport requested the National Assembly Delegation of An Giang province to consult with the People's Committee of An Giang province so that the People's Committee of An Giang province can send a document to the Ministry of Transport on converting local roads into national highways according to regulations.

At the same time, the Ministry of Transport has submitted to the Government a draft Decree detailing and guiding the implementation of a number of articles of the Road Law (the Decree takes effect from January 1, 2025); the draft Decree stipulates decentralization to the Provincial People's Committee to carry out investment in construction, management, operation, exploitation and maintenance of national highways passing through the province.
