Prolonged heavy rains, combined with increased traffic volume at the end of the year, have caused National Highway 1A, from Nghia Chanh Ward, Quang Ngai City to La Ha Town, Tu Nghia District, Quang Ngai Province, to be peeling, with many areas becoming bumpy and gravel scattered all over the road surface. This serious deterioration causes difficulties for vehicles and poses a potential risk of accidents, especially at night.
Speaking to reporters, Mr. Nguyen Van Tan, a resident of Nghia Chanh ward, Quang Ngai city, confided: "The road surface has many cracks and potholes. Every time a vehicle moves, I can hear the rumbling sound from inside my house."
Traffic volume on National Highway 1A has increased dramatically in the last days of the year. In order to quickly deal with the rough and damaged road surface, in recent days, a group of workers working on a truck marked "National Highway 1A Management Vehicle" have used rudimentary tools to directly pour asphalt concrete into the potholes. However, according to the reporter's records, the pothole patching work was done very hastily, superficially and perfunctorily. Just one day after being repaired, the potholes on National Highway 1A, from Quang Ngai City to La Ha Town, returned to their original state.
Many people living along both sides of Highway 1A said that the repair team was very fast, but ineffective. The road was "patched" but the next day it peeled off again, wasting effort and money.
On the morning of December 21, reporters drove along the National Highway 1A that had been repaired in the past few days. Only the patched area at La Ha Bridge in Tu Nghia District still had a piece of asphalt stuck to it. However, if you just gently remove it with your hand, the rocks will fall in one place and the asphalt will drift in another. Every time a heavy truck passes by, the patch is eroded.
The most worrying thing is that the potholes have not been completely fixed, not only affecting traffic safety but also creating danger due to gravel scattered on the road surface. When vehicles pass by, these stones are scattered, causing danger to vehicles, especially motorbikes.
Speaking to reporters, a representative of the Quang Ngai Department of Transport said that National Highway 1A through Quang Ngai province is managed by Road Management Unit 3 - Vietnam Road Administration (Ministry of Transport). Damage on the road has also been maintained and repaired by this unit to ensure traffic safety.
