Traffic accidents sharply reduced on New Year's Day

On February 17 (ie, the 1st day of Tet), the whole country recorded 46 traffic accidents, killing 24 people and injuring 41 people, a sharp decrease compared to the same period in 2025.

According to the Traffic Police Department, on February 17, there were 46 traffic accidents nationwide, killing 24 people and injuring 41 people. Compared to the Tet holiday of the same period in 2025, the number of accidents decreased by 21 cases, a decrease of 8 deaths and a decrease of 10 injuries.

Along with ensuring traffic order and safety, local police have strengthened patrols, inspections, and strictly handled violations. During the day, functional forces inspected, detected and handled 6,129 violations; the total amount of fines is estimated at more than 21 billion VND.

Functional forces have temporarily seized 31 cars, 1,751 motorbikes and 85 other vehicles; revoked the right to use 147 driver's licenses of all kinds; deducted points from driver's licenses for 1,083 cases.

Among the violations, alcohol concentration violations accounted for 1,570 cases, speeding violations 1,417 cases. In addition, there were 16 cases of carrying more people than prescribed; 21 cases of picking up and dropping off passengers in the wrong places; 16 cases of using phones or electronic devices while driving; 2 cases of drug violations and some other violations.

The above results show that traffic accidents continue to be reduced compared to the same period, and at the same time show the determination of functional forces in patrolling, controlling, and handling violations, contributing to ensuring traffic order and safety nationwide.
