The steel overpass at the Nguyen Van Cu - Hong Tien intersection is one of the important items in the project of the road connecting Nguyen Van Cu Street to the end of Ngoc Thuy resettlement area (Long Bien District, Hanoi).
The bridge and approach roads are approximately 400m long (of which the bridge is over 210m long) with 2 mixed lanes, which is the main highlight of the project.
In fact, the steel overpass has basically completed its components for many months. However, because the road connecting Nguyen Van Cu to Ngoc Thuy is still under construction, the bridge is not yet open to traffic.
On October 5, Long Bien district inaugurated the road connecting Nguyen Van Cu and Ngoc Thuy streets after 6 years of construction. Authorities removed the barriers at both ends of the Hong Tien overpass, officially allowing vehicles to pass through the bridge.
The completed steel overpass project, put into use, helps reduce the load on the Nguyen Van Cu - Hong Tien intersection, promoting connectivity between the newly inaugurated route and the Hanoi - Hai Phong expressway.
Lao Dong's observations show that the plan to build steel overpasses at intersections has shown clear effectiveness, helping to solve traffic jam "black spots" in Hanoi.
Most recently, Hanoi has put into use the C-shaped overpass connecting Chua Boc - Pham Ngoc Thach. The bridge is over 300m long, 9m wide, with an investment capital of 150 billion VND, completed after 21 months of construction.
This is an important and urgent traffic project, contributing to solving traffic congestion in the capital.
Speaking with Lao Dong, Dr. Khuong Kim Tao - former Deputy Chief of the Office of the National Traffic Safety Committee - said that the steel overpass construction plan is an urgent solution chosen by Hanoi in the face of the current situation where many intersections have become overloaded, while there is not enough capital to complete the intersections.
Mr. Tao said that steel bridges are not permanent bridges, so they have low cost, fast construction time, little impact on the environment, low maintenance costs; when needed, the project can be dismantled and moved to another location.
"These are light overpasses, but they still basically meet the daily traffic volume, contributing to solving the "black spots" of traffic congestion in the capital," said Dr. Khuong Kim Tao.
The road project connecting Nguyen Van Cu Street to the end of Ngoc Thuy resettlement area is about 1.52km long, starting at the intersection of Nguyen Van Cu Street and ending at the Ngoc Thuy dike, with a total investment of about 1,200 billion VND.
The project began construction in 2018 and was expected to be completed in 2 years. However, due to difficulties in site clearance and the prolonged COVID-19 pandemic, the project was delayed and scheduled for completion in October 2024.
The completed project has a 40m wide cross-section with 6 lanes, creating a smooth route from Dong Tru bridge through Thuong Thanh, Ngoc Thuy, Ngoc Lam, Bo De, Long Bien, Thach Ban wards connecting to Hanoi - Hai Phong highway.
Many people in this area also consider this to be the most beautiful street in Long Bien district up to now.
