Commercial operation of Metro Line 1
Metro Line 1 (Ben Thanh - Suoi Tien) was approved in 2007, started construction in 2012, and officially operated from December 22, 2024 with a cost of more than 43,700 billion VND. The line is 19.7 km long (2.6 km underground, 17.1 km above ground), including 14 stations and Long Binh Depot in Thu Duc City, serving to connect the central area with the east of Ho Chi Minh City.
Metro uses 17 trains, each with 3 cars, capacity of 930 passengers. Maximum speed is 110 km/h (elevated section) and 80 km/h (underground section). Each day operates about 200 trips from 5am to 10pm, frequency 8-12 minutes, the entire route takes about 30 minutes.
Metro Line 1 coming into operation is a historical milestone, of great significance in shaping modern urban transport culture in Ho Chi Minh City.
Nguyen Van Linh - Nguyen Huu Tho tunnel opens to traffic
On December 30, 2024, the tunnel branch from Binh Chanh to District 7 at the Nguyen Van Linh - Nguyen Huu Tho intersection officially opened to traffic, completing phase 1 of the project with an investment capital of VND 830 billion. Previously, the tunnel branch from District 7 to Binh Chanh was put into use in October 2024.
The project, which started in April 2020, will build two tunnel branches on Nguyen Van Linh Avenue, each 456 m long with 3 lanes, including a roundabout and branching roads. The project will help reduce traffic congestion at the southern gateway of Ho Chi Minh City, while also connecting the city center with Nha Be district and Hiep Phuoc port.
Many items of Tan Son Nhat airport gateway route completed
The Tran Quoc Hoan - Cong Hoa connecting road project (gateway to Tan Son Nhat airport), with a total investment of VND 4,848 billion, started construction on December 24, 2022.
Over the past year, many important items of the project have been completed, helping to reduce congestion at the gateway to Tan Son Nhat airport. On August 10, 2024, the Phan Thuc Duyen - Tran Quoc Hoan underpass, 600 m long, 30 m wide, worth 200 billion VND, was opened to traffic. In early November 2024, the section connecting this underpass with Thang Long - 18E - Cong Hoa street, worth 120 billion VND, also came into operation.
On January 20, 2025, phase 1 of the project, the section from Phan Thuc Duyen tunnel to Hoang Hoa Tham, also opened to traffic, completing three connection points to T3 station.
According to schedule, the entire Tran Quoc Hoan - Cong Hoa connecting road project will be completed before April 30, 2025, in sync with the Tan Son Nhat airport T3 terminal construction project currently under construction.
Upgrading and expanding National Highway 50
A parallel road to National Highway 50 was just put into operation by Ho Chi Minh City on December 30, 2024, helping to reduce traffic pressure on the existing national highway.
This is a section of the National Highway 50 expansion project (through Binh Chanh district), which started construction at the end of 2022 with a total investment of nearly 1,500 billion VND. The entire project is nearly 7 km long, starting from the intersection with Nguyen Van Linh Street to the border of Long An province.
Of which, about 4.2 km will be a new route parallel to National Highway 50, the remaining section will be expanded to 34 m with 6 lanes. Due to land clearance issues, about 2 km will be opened to traffic first, the remaining section is expected to be completed by the end of 2025.
Rach Dia Bridge, Nam Ly Bridge, Phuoc Long Bridge Opened to Traffic
In 2024, Ho Chi Minh City completed many important traffic bridge projects. Cay Kho Bridge across Ong Lon Canal, connecting Nha Be District with Binh Chanh District, opened to traffic on August 30, 2024 after 6 years of construction with a total investment of 500 billion VND. On October 2, 2024, Nam Ly Bridge worth 731 billion VND was put into operation, solving the "bottleneck" situation at the eastern gateway of Ho Chi Minh City after 8 years of construction. On November 28, 2024, Rach Dia Bridge on Le Van Luong Street, with a cost of more than 500 billion VND, was also officially completed, facilitating the movement of people in District 7 and Nha Be District.
On December 30, 2024, Ho Chi Minh City continued to put into use two major projects: Long Phuoc bridge connecting District 7 with Nha Be district, worth nearly 740 billion VND, and the project to upgrade and expand Tan Ky Tan Quy road with a total investment of nearly 1,200 billion VND.
These projects not only help reduce traffic congestion at city gateways, but also contribute to promoting local socio-economic development.
