In the afternoon of April 7, Lao Dong's records at the construction site of the Thang Long Avenue expressway project (the section connecting National Highway 21 to the Hanoi - Hoa Binh expressway) showed that the construction atmosphere was quite quiet. At the construction site, there were only a few workers and machinery and equipment operating.

The project has a length of 6.7 km and is identified as one of the key infrastructure projects in western Hanoi today. The road plays a role in completing the strategic traffic axis, connecting from the capital center to Hoa Binh (old) and the northwestern provinces.
Notably, this route also plays a linkage role with Hanoi National University - a university urban area with a scale of more than 11.13 km2, the largest in the country. The surrounding area also concentrates many important training institutions such as the Political Officer School, the University of Culture and Arts of the Army, and the Electricity University. When completed, the project is expected to shorten travel time from the Northwest provinces to Hoa Lac, while promoting regional linkages.
According to Hoa Lac Commune People's Committee, by April 1, site clearance work had achieved many positive results. The locality has handed over more than 564,000 m2 out of a total of 676 land plots, equivalent to 93.21% of the area to be recovered.
However, there are still some "remaining" areas that have not been cleared, affecting the construction progress. Currently, about 6.79% of the area (equivalent to more than 41,000 m2, including 7 land plots) has not been handed over, mainly due to problems with land origin and compensation procedures.
Meanwhile, the existing road next to the construction area is under great traffic pressure. The density of vehicles increases during peak hours and weekends, posing a potential risk of unsafety. Therefore, the early completion of the project and reorganizing traffic is considered very necessary to reduce the load on the area.

According to the plan, the project aims to be completed in 2026. When put into operation, the road will not only contribute to completing the transportation network but also help reduce pressure on existing axes, while expanding Hanoi's development space to the West and Southwest.

The road project connecting Thang Long Avenue to Hoa Lac - Hoa Binh expressway was started in October 2023, with the starting point at the Thang Long Avenue - National Highway 21 intersection and the ending point directly connecting to the Hanoi - Hoa Binh expressway. When completed, the route will replace the existing narrow road, contributing to reducing traffic pressure, shortening travel time and improving connectivity capacity throughout the western Hanoi area.
