At Km1717 + 513 National Highway 1 (Ham Kiem Commune, Ham Thuan Nam District, Binh Thuan) intersecting with the access road to Phan Thiet - Dau Giay Expressway and Ham Kiem - Tien Thanh Road, many directions of traffic are created.
Vehicles from the expressway cross National Highway 1 (QL1) to turn left towards Phan Thiet City or go straight to Ham Kiem - Tien Thanh Street. Vehicles traveling on National Highway 1 in the direction of Phan Thiet - Dong Nai and vice versa must reduce speed to avoid.
The authorities have commented that this location is a "conflict" because the traffic routes overlap and must avoid each other. While the traffic volume from Ba Bau intersection to National Highway 1 and vice versa is very high, especially on weekends and holidays.
According to the Phan Thiet - Dau Giay Expressway Management Board, the Thang Long Project Management Board has coordinated with the People's Committee of Binh Thuan province to encourage people to hand over the site to soon implement the construction of the Ba Bau intersection overpass on National Highway 1.
This is an additional item after the Phan Thiet - Dau Giay expressway was put into operation from the end of April 2023.
Currently, related procedures are being completed to soon start the construction of the overpass. It is expected that if all goes well, the project will start construction in April 2025.
According to the approved design, the overpass will be built on National Highway 1 with a scale of 4 lanes. Under the overpass, a roundabout is arranged and the existing Suoi Sup bridge is expanded. Add some service roads with the scale of rural traffic roads, add a transversal and vertical drainage system. In addition, at Phan Thiet intersection, a right turn from the expressway is added with a length of 1.2 km. The scale of the two lanes, the road surface is 7 m wide, the right side is 3 m wide and the left side is 1 m wide.
Previously, in July 2023, the People's Committee of Binh Thuan province proposed to add an overpass at Ba Bau intersection to relieve traffic conflicts and open an additional right turn road, in the direction from Dau Giay to Phan Thiet before reaching Ba Bau intersection, to regulate the flow of vehicles entering and leaving the expressway to ensure safer and more convenient vehicle movement.
