On July 7, the Hanoi City Traffic Management and Operation Center informed about the multi-modal ticket connection plan for the public passenger transport system in the city.
Accordingly, with multi-modal inter-modal tickets, passengers can use a single type of card to travel on many different types of public transport, including buses and urban railways.
Director of the Hanoi City Traffic Management and Operation Center Thai Ho Phuong said that the interconnected and single-mode ticket price plan will be applied when the automatic ticket collection system (AFC) officially operates, expected in September 2025. Passengers using interconnected tickets (including buses and urban railways) will enjoy more preferential prices.
Accordingly, it reduces the total cost of single-mode tickets (if using buses and 2 urban railway lines). 10% discount if using buses and 1 urban railway line; additional incentives for buying long-term monthly tickets.
For example, currently, passengers using monthly tickets for the bus route are 280,000 VND/month; monthly tickets for the Cat Linh - Ha Dong railway line, Nhon - Hanoi Railway Station route (from August 1, 2025) are 280,000 VND/month. The total monthly ticket for the above two forms of transportation is 560,000 VND/month.
When applying multi-modal tickets, the ticket price will be 500,000 VND/month, equivalent to a 10% discount.
In addition, the city also added daily and weekly tickets and reduced prices for multi-month tickets (a reduction of 3.5-6% for 2-12 month tickets).
Notably, instead of the current single-class tickets, bus fares will be calculated based on the travel distance of passengers. Passengers pay from 4,350 VND to 32,000 VND for a distance of 3km to 64km.
