Bringing shrimp and rice trees far from the market
The East-West axis route passes through Nga Nam town, Thanh Tri district, My Xuyen district and Vinh Chau town (old Soc Trang province) directly connecting with Hau Giang, Bac Lieu, Ca Mau and Can Tho provinces before the merger. The project will build new, expand and upgrade nearly 57km of road, 44 bridges, 50 culverts and 6 important intersections. The total investment is 2,000 billion VND from the central budget and local budget counterpart.
When put into operation, this route will connect important traffic axes of the Mekong Delta, creating development momentum for Can Tho City and surrounding areas; helping rice, shrimp, and seafood to be consumed smoothly, improving people's lives and ensuring national defense and security.

Ms. Le Thi Phan in Ngoc To commune (Can Tho city) expressed that the new road passes through about 3 hectares of her family's shrimp farming land. "Previously, there was no road in this area, every time shrimp was harvested, transportation was extremely difficult. Those who have the conditions can build a cement bridge, otherwise they can build a temporary bridge with trees. Every time I transfer shrimp, I have to carry a basket across the bridge, which is very difficult," said Ms. Phan.
Ms. Phan said that since the East-West axis was formed, travel and transportation of goods has been much more convenient. Trucks can go to the purchasing location. "Since the road was built, everyone has been happy. People send their children to school more conveniently, making business easier. My family is most happy because the trucks take shrimp harvested wherever they go. In addition, I also open a beverage shop for customers selling water to customers on the street, and my income is quite stable," said Ms. Phan.

Ms. Quach Ngoc Hieu - Chairman of the People's Committee of Hoa Tu commune (Can Tho city) said that the East-West axis road section through the commune is about 4km long, belonging to Hoa Phuong and Hoa Trung hamlets (where the commune's administrative center is located). When the route is put into use, it will contribute to promoting trade of goods, traffic circulation, and enhancing connectivity between communes in the area.
"The East-West axis road, when completed, is very spacious, people are very excited. Many households have invested in building houses and expanding their sales, especially in transporting key items such as shrimp, rice, and vegetables," said Ms. Hieu.
