On the evening of October 10, the Ministry of Industry and Trade coordinated with the People's Committee of Kien Giang province to organize the opening ceremony of the "Exhibition Fair of Typical Rural Industrial Products in the Southern Region in 2024" in Phu Quoc City.
The exhibition fair of typical rural industrial products and the awarding of certificates of typical rural industrial products at the regional level is an activity under the 2024 National Industrial Promotion Program directed by the Ministry of Industry and Trade and the People's Committee of Kien Giang province; jointly organized by the Department of Industry and Trade of the locality and the Department of Industry and Trade of Kien Giang province. The fair takes place from October 10 to 16, 2024, at Ho Chi Minh Square, Duong Dong ward, Phu Quoc city.
Mr. Giang Thanh Khoa - Vice Chairman of Kien Giang Provincial People's Committee - said: This exhibition is an opportunity to display and introduce the potential for developing typical rural industrial products, creating opportunities for enterprises and typical rural industrial establishments to meet, exchange, learn from experiences, promote products, seek partners, develop markets for goods consumption, transfer technology, contributing to improving competitiveness in the process of integration and economic development in the region as well as the whole country. Thereby, actively responding to the Campaign "Vietnamese people prioritize using Vietnamese goods".
The products displayed at the fair are unique and typical rural industrial products of enterprises and rural industrial establishments in the fields of: handicrafts; agricultural, forestry, fishery and food processing; mechanical spare parts, machinery, equipment... with 189 typical rural industrial products at the regional level (including 19 products from Kien Giang).
Ms. Phan Thi Thang - Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade - said that with the available potential and strengths of the sea and islands, along with the efforts, innovative thinking and aspirations of the local government and people, Kien Giang has been affirming its position and role as one of the dynamic marine economic centers of the Mekong Delta region and is gradually getting closer to the goal of becoming a national marine economic center.
In 2024, nationwide, 889 typical rural industrial products at the provincial level registered to participate in regional voting; of which, 439 products were recognized, reaching 49% of the total number of registered products.
In the Southern region alone, 382 products were registered for voting from 18/20 provinces and cities; of which, 189 products were recognized, reaching 49.5% of the total number of registrations. Thus, the typical recognized rural industrial products of the Southern region account for 43% of the total number of recognized products nationwide in 2024.
“This is the highest number of voted products ever at the regional level. Localities have registered to participate with the most outstanding products, bearing strong identities with much improved scale and quality compared to before. This year in particular, many new products originating from start-up movements are proof of the companionship and effectiveness of the industrial promotion program, which has contributed to encouraging rural industrial establishments to have more motivation, boldly invest in new technology, produce products of superior quality, and meet consumer tastes,” Ms. Thang emphasized.
