On the afternoon of May 30, Binh Dinh province held a conference to strengthen state management of the fight against smuggling, trade fraud, counterfeit goods, poor quality goods and air transport to ensure food safety (abbreviated as smuggled goods, counterfeit goods) in the province.
Recently, the situation of smuggling, production and trading of counterfeit goods across the country has been complicated, with many violations being serious. Implementing the direction of the Government, the Prime Minister and the National Steering Committee 389, the People's Committee of Binh Dinh province has requested functional agencies to implement many synchronous solutions, strengthen inspection, supervision, and strictly handle violations.

Since the beginning of the year, the provincial police have discovered and arrested 33 cases/37 subjects transporting goods of unknown origin, without invoices and documents, worth hundreds of millions of VND. Thereby, 25 cases of administrative violations with a total amount of more than 117 million VND were sanctioned; 7 cases were prosecuted with 8 defendants for the crimes of storing, transporting prohibited goods and trading in counterfeit goods.
The Customs force discovered and handled 26 administrative violations with a total fine of over 243 million VND. The Provincial Border Guard also arrested 4 cases/4 subjects (2 cases related to drugs; 2 cases of buying and selling goods without invoices and documents).
At the conference, delegates discussed and proposed many solutions to improve the effectiveness of the fight against smuggled and counterfeit goods. One of the contents of concern is tightening control of business activities in cyberspace - where there are many sophisticated and uncontrollable violations.
Lieutenant Colonel Nguyen Thanh Quang - Deputy Head of the Economic Police Department, Binh Dinh Provincial Police - said that the current smuggling and production and trading of counterfeit goods is very complicated and unpredictable. This causes economic damage, seriously affecting consumer rights and business reputation. Therefore, police units need to conduct a general review, make a list of individuals, organizations, and groups operating in cyberspace, classify them according to groups of goods, violations, and key areas.
"It is necessary to clearly identify key subjects with signs of smuggling, production, and trading of counterfeit goods, infringement of intellectual property rights, and consumption of goods of unknown origin. At the same time, clarify the management responsibilities of relevant organizations and individuals; strictly handle negative and covering acts to create deterrence", said Lieutenant Colonel Quang.
Concluding the conference, Chairman of Binh Dinh Provincial People's Committee Pham Anh Tuan highly appreciated the efforts of sectors and functional forces in the fight against smuggled and counterfeit goods in recent times. However, he also warned that the situation of smuggling, production - trading of counterfeit and poor quality goods still has many potential complications, especially with essential goods that directly affect people's health such as food, milk, pharmaceuticals, cosmetics, fast-moving consumer goods, etc.
Mr. Pham Anh Tuan requested the authorities to launch a peak period of attack and suppression of violations in the fields of smuggling, trade fraud, counterfeit goods, and infringement of intellectual property rights throughout the province within 1 month (from June 1 to July 1). After the peak period, this task must be maintained regularly and continuously, avoiding lax management after the campaign.
