Ca Mau - The 50 MW wind power project is expected to create more momentum for green economic development and renewable energy.

On June 20, in Dong Hai commune, Ca Mau Provincial People's Committee coordinated with Japan Energy - Bac Lieu Joint Stock Company to organize the groundbreaking ceremony of the Japan - Bac Lieu Wind Power Plant Project with a total investment of nearly 2,500 billion VND.

The project has a designed capacity of 50 MW, expected to be completed before December 31, 2027. When put into operation, the project will supplement clean electricity for the national power system, contributing to ensuring energy security, reducing greenhouse gas emissions and promoting local socio-economic development.

Speaking at the ceremony, Vice Chairman of Ca Mau Provincial People's Committee Huynh Chi Nguyen said that the commencement of the project marks another step forward in attracting investment in the local renewable energy sector. This is also proof of an increasingly favorable investment environment, along with the companionship of the provincial government with businesses.

According to Mr. Huynh Chi Nguyen, after the merger, Ca Mau has a large development space with 3 sides bordering the sea, possessing many advantages in marine economy, logistics, seafood, eco-tourism and renewable energy. With a long coastline and favorable wind conditions, the locality is assessed as one of the areas with great wind power development potential in the country.

Ca Mau province identifies clean energy development as one of the important growth drivers in the coming period, contributing to the implementation of green growth goals, reducing greenhouse gas emissions, ensuring national energy security and realizing the commitment to net zero emissions by 2050.

At the groundbreaking ceremony, the Vice Chairman of Ca Mau Provincial People's Committee requested departments, branches and localities to continue to coordinate and support investors in the construction process; and at the same time requested that the project must be implemented in accordance with the plan, ensuring technical requirements...

Representative of the investor, Ms. Tran Thi Bich Phuong, said that the enterprise chose to invest in Ca Mau because the locality has favorable natural conditions for wind power development, especially the sea area with stable wind speed all year round.

According to Ms. Phuong, the enterprise is committed to implementing the project on schedule, ensuring construction quality, fully complying with regulations on environment, labor and construction safety; and maintaining close coordination with local authorities throughout the implementation process.

Ca Mau sets a target for the period 2026 - 2030 to achieve an average electricity production growth rate of over 10.4%/year. The locality will focus on completing electricity transmission infrastructure, developing renewable energy sources such as wind power, solar power, hydrogen and green ammonia.

By 2030, Ca Mau aims to become a renewable energy center of the Mekong Delta region, creating a foundation for energy export goals and sustainable development in the future.
