Ms. Nguyen Thi Tam (Tay Ho district, Hanoi), owner of a peach garden in Nhat Tan peach village, said that this year, after the historic storm, her family lost about 300 peach trees, accounting for nearly half of the trees in the garden.
“This year, peach prices are higher than in previous years, so the number of customers is also lower. Peach growers are suffering heavy losses this year,” said Ms. Tam.
Ms. Tam said that this year, each peach blossom branch in her garden costs between 1 and 1.5 million VND, depending on its size. “Every year, the most expensive peach blossom branches I sell cost only 1 to 1.1 million VND,” Ms. Tam said.
Not far away, Mrs. Tran Thi Tuoi's garden (Tay Ho district, Hanoi) lost more than 100 peach trees after storm No. 3.
“This year, beautiful peach branches with good shape and size should cost from 2 million VND, smaller trees range from 1 to 1.5 million VND, an increase compared to previous years,” said Ms. Tuoi.
Every Tet holiday, Mr. Le Hoang Anh (Tay Ho district, Hanoi) goes to Nhat Tan peach blossom village to choose beautiful peach blossom branches to display during Tet. However, this year, Mr. Hoang Anh still cannot buy any satisfactory branches even though he has visited 5 different gardens.
“This year, peach trees are more expensive, so beautiful bonsai peach trees cost more than 2 million VND. I am not ready to spend money to buy them yet,” said Mr. Hoang Anh.
According to Lao Dong Newspaper on January 24, although the Lunar New Year is approaching, the atmosphere in Nhat Tan peach blossom village (Tay Ho district, Hanoi) is still relatively gloomy. Many traders are facing difficulties because the number of customers has decreased compared to previous years.
Due to the impact of storm No. 3, the number of peach trees has decreased, causing prices to increase. The type of peach trees that people prefer is still the mysterious peach tree, with prices ranging from 1 to 2.5 million VND/branch. Smaller peach branches cost from several hundred thousand VND.
Currently, traders are still trying to take care of and irrigate the peach trees so they can bloom in time for Lunar New Year to serve the people.
