Struggling to repair a coastal restaurant damaged by storm in Ha Tinh

TRẦN TUẤN |

Storm No. 5 and storm No. 10 have severely damaged coastal restaurants in Ha Tinh. After the storm, the repair was difficult and struggled due to heavy damage and high costs.

On October 26, a reporter from Lao Dong Newspaper, present at Xuan Hai beach area, Loc Ha commune, recorded that after the storm, besides some restaurants that had been repairing and re-roofed the corrugated iron roof, there were still many restaurants that were negligent, unable to repair, and had not yet cleaned up the damaged and collapsed areas due to the storm.

Ms. Bui Thi Ninh (43 years old) - owner of Son Viet Hoang seafood restaurant - said that she has been running a restaurant here for nearly 20 years but in less than a year the restaurant has been damaged and the damage caused by the storm is as great as this year.

"During storm No. 5, my restaurant was damaged, the roof was blown off and nearly 100 million VND was repaired. However, within just one month, storm No. 10 continued to cause devastation, causing more damage. I just bought materials and hired a repairman to repair them for about 120 million more, Ms. Ninh lamented.

According to Ms. Ninh, it was not due to subjectivity or lack of proactive prevention, but in fact, before the storm, her family used many sandbags to tie and prevent the restaurant. However, due to the storm being too big, the restaurant was close to the sea and could not withstand it, leading to heavy damage and great damage.

At the Border Guard guesthouse in Xuan Hai beach area, storm No. 10 also caused severe damage, blown off the roof, collapsed the parking lot, and broke the guesthouse windows. It has now been repaired and re-roofed.

In addition to some restaurants that have been repaired and fixed after the storm, there are still some restaurants that have not been fixed.

Ms. Dau Thi Huong (44 years old, residing in Tran Phu ward, Ha Tinh province) is the owner of Bien Xanh restaurant in Loc Ha commune - said that 3 years ago, she rented out the restaurant, spending more than 1 billion VND to upgrade and invest in some additional items at Bien Xanh restaurant.

While not yet recovered enough capital, the recent storms No. 5 and No. 10 caused severe damage, causing her restaurant to be severely damaged, her roof to break, her seafood tank to break, and many air conditioners to fly...

"The damage is severe, now to repair it, it will cost about 800 million VND, while we do not have much capital left, so we cannot fix or repair it. Maybe we should let it be next year and think about it, Ms. Huong shared.

Ms. Huong, Ms. Ninh and many restaurant owners here all hope to receive support to overcome the damage to have more funds to renovate the restaurant to continue doing business and compensate for the damage caused by natural disasters.

Ms. Vo Thi Thu Hien - Head of the Tourism Management Department - Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Ha Tinh - said that recently, storm No. 10 caused severe damage to tourist areas in Ha Tinh, especially in coastal tourist areas.

After the storm, businesses, accommodation service businesses, and coastal restaurants are focusing on overcoming the problem. The storm caused great damage, causing difficulties for many units.

The tourism industry and local authorities have inspected and encouraged business owners and restaurants to make efforts to overcome difficulties and promptly repair them to restore production and business.
