Over 70 years of construction and growth, the Vietnam Maritime Safety Industry has constantly developed and played a key role in the national maritime transport system. From the early days of difficulties and deprivation, the industry has gradually affirmed its position, meeting the requirements of ensuring safety, leading the boats to operate on the maritime channel routes, effectively serving the national construction and defense. In 1990, the industry officially became a member of the Association of International Maritime Signals (IALA), now an organization of international maritime signals, marking a strong integration with the world maritime community.

Since 2005, the Northern region's lighting and maritime signaling system has been invested in synchronously, with 42 continuously operating light bulbs, 398 floating signals and 69 signal markers on 20 national shipping lanes always maintained in the best conditions.
These efforts have contributed to ensuring absolute safety for ships entering and leaving key seaports such as Hai Phong, Hon Gai - Cai Lan, Nghi Son, Cua Lo, Da Nang, Dung Quat..., minimizing the risk of maritime accidents, protecting the marine environment and maintaining national security and defense at sea. At the Conference announced the Minister of Construction's Decision No. 438/QD-BXD of April 18, 2025 on the establishment of Vietnam Maritime Safety Corporation on the basis of consolidating the Northern Maritime Safety Corporation and the Southern Maritime Safety Corporation, and announcing the change of the title of some key personnel positions of the unit.
