Information from Dien Bien Provincial Statistics, Dien Bien's GRDP in the first 6 months of 2026 reached 15,437.33 billion VND, an increase of 8.67% compared to the same period last year.
This result puts the province ranked 5th/9 localities in the Northern Midlands and Mountains region and ranked 17th/34 provinces and cities nationwide in terms of economic growth rate in the first 6 months of the year.
In the growth structure, the industry - construction sector continues to play a leading role with an increase of 12.92%. The service sector increased by 8.98%, while agriculture, forestry and fishery increased by 4.16%, continuing to be the foundation to ensure stable production.
Agriculture maintains growth momentum thanks to focusing on winter-spring crop production, accelerating crop sowing and expanding the area of key crops such as coffee and macadamia according to the industry restructuring orientation.
The annual planting area reached more than 79,000ha, an increase of 5.71% compared to the same period. Aquaculture production also increased by nearly 4%.
However, this sector is still affected by African swine fever, H5N1 avian flu, foot-and-mouth disease, along with the risk of forest fires and violations of forest law in some localities.
The bright spot of the economy continues to belong to industry and construction. The Industrial Production Index (IIP) increased by 16.03%, of which the processing and manufacturing industry increased by 17.66%, continuing to play a driving force for growth.
Along with that, many key projects have been implemented such as the Son La - Dien Bien - Tay Trang Border Gate expressway (phase 1), Dien Bien Phu cultural and historical cable car complex, social housing and resort projects have created additional construction volume, bringing the production value of the construction industry to increase by 44.13% compared to the same period.
Commercial and service activities recorded many positive signals when the total retail sales of goods and consumer service revenue reached more than 16,608 billion VND, an increase of 14.86%.
Accommodation and food revenue increased by 18.55% thanks to the increase in tourists and festivals, cultural and sports events held in the area.
Transportation and warehousing revenue also increased by 18.58% due to the demand for transporting passengers, goods and construction materials to serve key projects.
Investment continues to be the fulcrum of growth when total social development investment capital reached nearly 8,700 billion VND, an increase of 15.82%; investment capital from the state budget managed by localities alone increased by 40.5%.
In the first 6 months of the year, the whole province had 171 newly established enterprises with a total registered capital of more than 1,329 billion VND. Import and export activities maintained growth momentum with a turnover of 82.91 million USD, an increase of 26.68%.
Besides the positive results, credit growth is still slow, some industries have not recovered evenly, and businesses are still under pressure from input costs.
However, the average consumer price index (CPI) for 6 months only increased by 3.74%, contributing to maintaining macroeconomic stability and creating room for production and business.
Recently, at the meeting of the Standing Committee of Dien Bien Provincial People's Committee, Mr. Le Van Luong - Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee requested to concretize the growth targets to each commune, ward and each industry and field.
The head of Dien Bien Provincial People's Committee assigned the Department of Finance to preside over advising on the issuance of a general directive document of the Provincial People's Committee on the implementation of the growth plan.
At the same time, coordinate with departments and branches to develop documents to allocate targets according to each field. Communes proactively summarize and propose targets for fields such as: Education, health, industry, construction... for departments and branches to consider and assign appropriate tasks.
The Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee also requested the Department of Agriculture and Environment to urgently issue a directive document and issue an inspection plan for disaster prevention and control work.
