According to the Department of Agriculture and Environment of Tra Vinh, farmers in coastal areas have basically harvested the crab crop in early 2025, with a selling price of 200,000 - 450,000 VND/kg, an increase of 20 30% over the same period. Each hectare of crab farming yields a net profit of about 160180 million VND.
Mr. Nguyen Thanh Tam, Long Hoa commune, Chau Thanh district, said that the intensive crab crop in early 2025 on an area of 0.5 hectares will yield more than 450kg. With an average selling price of 200,000 VND/kg, he earned more than 85 million VND after 4 months of raising the children.
Wallow worms are easy to raise, have few diseases, and are mainly for eating brackish fish and natural foods. If we take good care of them, we can harvest 2-3 harvests per year, Mr. Tam shared.
Not only Mr. Tam, many crab farming households in the province also recorded high profits. Commercial crab prices are increasing sharply due to reduced supply, while market demand, especially brick crab and crab meat, prices have skyrocketed.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Hong, a crab trader in Cau Ngang district, said that the price of sea crab this year has increased sharply compared to before. Currently, brick crab with 2-3 pigs/kg costs up to 450,000 VND/kg, meat crab about 200,000250,000 VND/kg. While in the same period last year, the price of brick crab was only about 320,000350,000 VND/kg, meat crab fluctuated 160,000180,000 VND/kg.
According to Ms. Hong, the reason for the price increase is the decrease in the amount of out-of-nature crabs, the concentrated farming resources do not meet market demand, especially in the late summer when the demand for crabs consumption increases.
"This year, many traders have to take advantage of going to the pond to order in advance, because if we are close to the harvest, there will be no more beautiful crabs," Ms. Hong added.
Speaking with Lao Dong, Mr. Tran Truong Giang - Director of the Department of Agriculture and Environment of Tra Vinh province - said that the whole province currently has over 23,000 hectares of sea crab farming, concentrated in coastal districts such as Duyen Hai, Cau Ngang, Chau Thanh, Duyen Hai town, ...
On average, the province supplies the market with about 6,500 tons of commercial crabs each year. "In the first crop of 2025 alone, farmers harvested about 2,500 tons of crab, bringing a stable source of income and creating sustainable livelihoods for people," Mr. Giang informed.

To enhance the value and brand of Tra Vinh crab products, the agricultural sector has invested more than 1.6 billion VND to build and protect the geographical term "Tra Vinh Sea Crab".
This is a strategic step to protect the interests of farmers, traders and expand domestic consumption and export markets.
"We identify sea crab as a key aquatic resource, suitable for coastal conditions and climate change. The province will continue to provide technical support, capital, and link markets to help people feel secure in production," Mr. Giang emphasized.
