In recent days, information about prolonged goods congestion at Kim Thanh Border Gate (Lao Cai ward) has caused concern for many businesses and people.

Records of Lao Dong Newspaper reporters at the beginning of February 2026 show that after a period of congestion, import and export activities at Kim Thanh Border Gate have been cleared, and vehicles have successively resumed customs clearance procedures.
On February 5, in an exchange with reporters, a representative of Kim Thanh Border Gate Border Guard Station said that the unit has closely coordinated with customs, quarantine and inter-sectoral forces to regulate vehicles and organize reasonable traffic diversion for customs clearance vehicles.

According to a representative of the Border Guard Station, the main cause of the congestion stems from the fact that Decree No. 46/2026 has taken effect while there is no detailed guidance document on inspection methods, sampling procedures and testing time.
In addition, there are no transitional regulations for shipments that have been imported or are undergoing procedures before the decree takes effect, causing confusion in implementation.
Because the document was received late, the units had to temporarily suspend the issuance of papers for vehicles to clear customs duration while waiting for specific instructions. The congestion mainly occurred with agricultural products, lasting about two days. Immediately after that, inter-sectoral forces met to discuss and agree on a handling plan," a representative of Kim Thanh Border Gate Border Guard Station informed.

Also according to this person, in the waiting for guidance phase, the application is carried out in parallel between Decree 46 and Decree 15, thanks to which customs clearance activities are still maintained, without being interrupted for a long time. Up to now, the border gate is basically clear again.
The quick clearance at Kim Thanh Border Gate not only helps relieve the flow of goods but also contributes to reducing pressure on import and export activities, limiting damage to businesses and people.
