Many flower gardeners in the Western provinces and cities are busy preparing flowers for the upcoming Lunar New Year.
According to records, gardeners in Hau Giang, Can Tho... who grow small and medium-sized areas mainly focus on mid-range flowers with low investment costs such as marigolds, carnations, sunflowers...
For chrysanthemums, although the care time is long, many gardeners are willing to expand the area due to the improved appeal, even though they are not yet on the shelves, they are already "sold out".
In addition to the main flowers such as marigolds and carnations, this Tet flower season, gardener Le Van Thanh (Vi Thanh city, Hau Giang province) increased the area for growing chrysanthemums to 1,000 pots.
"Every year, traders come to buy at the beginning of December, this year they put down a deposit early. Traders buy my chrysanthemums at 180,000 VND/pair, 10,000 VND higher than last year. This price is not too high but still profitable, no need to worry about output," said Mr. Thanh.
For the 2025 Tet flower crop, this gardener will plant 2,000 pots of marigolds, 1,000 pots of chrysanthemums, and some ornamental plants such as bougainvillea and ornamental almonds to supply the market.
In Can Tho, the flourishing ornamental flower market also brings good news to gardeners, including Mr. Pham Van Ut (Binh Thuy district, Can Tho city).
According to the sharing, the Tet flower crop is a high-profit crop for gardeners, last year Mr. Ut's family earned more than 65 million VND. This year, his family planted 1,500 pots of chrysanthemums, 200 pots of lucky flowers and about 100 pots of hanging flowers of various kinds to supply the market. The number of flowers planted increased by about 600 pots compared to last year.
"Compared to other types of flowers, chrysanthemums are more popular with customers. However, the plant is difficult to grow and care for, so I have to choose the variety carefully so that the plant will bloom in time for Tet," said Mr. Ut.
According to records, traders have deposited raspberry chrysanthemums at the garden for between 180,000 - 190,000 VND/pair. Although the price increase is not high (from 10,000 - 20,000 VND/pair), many garden owners confidently predict that with favorable weather, profits will be about 20% higher than last year.
Local agricultural sectors recommend that due to the impact of storms, rain, and erratic heat, ornamental flower growers need to regularly monitor and promptly respond to adverse weather developments.
Accordingly, gardeners need to equip temporary rain and sun protection systems to limit the impact of weather on plant growth; increase organic fertilizer application to help plants have good resistance, limit pests and diseases; improve irrigation ditch systems, clear water flows to limit damage caused by flooding...
