The Hoa Hiep Bac market project is under construction in the resettlement area north of the College of Transport II. This is a project that was approved by the City People's Committee in late 2022 and started construction in July 2024 with a total capital of nearly 19.8 billion VND.
For many years, Hoa Hiep Bac ward has not had a large-scale market to serve local people. Every day, people mainly buy and sell small items at three degraded temporary markets including Thuy Tu market, Vat Tu market and Kim Lien market.
However, these temporary markets are all located in disadvantageous locations, with narrow roads causing inconvenience to people in transportation and trading. Faced with this reality, the City People's Committee decided to build a new market in the ward.
Hoa Hiep Bac market project is invested with the scale of a class 3 market including main items such as: a 1-storey dry market block, expected to accommodate about 86 business households; a 1-storey market block, expected to accommodate 72 business locations, along with auxiliary items. It is expected that in the first quarter of 2025, the market will be put into use.
Ms. Ngo Thi Kim - a resident of Hoa Hiep Bac ward - shared: "I have always shopped at Vat Tu market and Thuy Tu market. However, the goods here are very limited, some products I need are not sold by anyone so I have to go to other big markets to buy. I hope that when Hoa Hiep Bac market comes into operation, it will sell a variety of goods to meet people's needs."
Similarly, Ms. Tran Thi Hoa (group 29, Hoa Hiep Bac ward) was extremely excited when she heard that the new market was about to open.
“The temporary markets here are all degraded and always damp, making shoppers worried. Therefore, I hope the new market will be spacious, airy and food hygiene and safety issues will be strictly controlled so that people can feel secure and comfortable when shopping,” Ms. Hoa shared.
According to Mr. Nguyen Minh Hoang - Vice Chairman of Hoa Hiep Bac Ward People's Committee, the ward is developing a plan to mobilize traders at temporary markets in the ward to do business at the new market. In addition, the ward will establish and train a market management team to ensure security and order are tightened right from the first days of operation.
“The new market is expected to become the western wholesale market of the city, supplying seafood from fishermen in Lien Chieu district and Lang Co town (Phu Loc district, Thua Thien Hue province). In addition, this will be a place for agricultural products of local people, thereby improving people's lives and contributing to local economic development,” said Mr. Hoang.
Ms. Duong Thi Thanh Thuy - Head of the Economic Department of Lien Chieu District - said that the District People's Committee regularly monitors and directs construction units to complete the project on schedule.
"In addition, direct the People's Committee of Hoa Hiep Bac ward to coordinate with relevant departments and offices to review small traders trading at the markets, develop a plan for approval, and prepare conditions for the project to be put into operation immediately after completing the basic construction," Ms. Thuy emphasized.
