On September 26, the People's Committee of Can Tho City coordinated with the Western Food Processing Export Joint Stock Company (WestFood) to inaugurate the WestFood Hau Giang Food Processing Factory.
The factory is built on an area of 7 hectares, with a total investment of more than 999 billion VND, with a designed capacity of 30,000 tons of finished products per year. This is considered one of the most modern processing facilities in the region, when owning a line of European standard technology, from the IQF rapid-frosting system, automatic connecting conveyor belt, automatic picking and cutting machines, to a line of canning, glass-casting, and a refrigerator and refrigerator with a capacity of up to 3,000 tons. When put into operation, the factory will create jobs for about 850 workers, contributing positively to the local socio-economic development.

Vice Chairman of Can Tho City People's Committee Nguyen Van Hoa said that this event is of great significance, not only contributing to the consumption of agricultural products for Can Tho and neighboring provinces but also creating a new value chain, promoting the development of the agricultural processing industry in a modern and sustainable direction. The project is also part of a series of projects to celebrate the 1st Can Tho City Party Congress, term 2025 - 2030.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Minh Nguyet, Chairwoman of the Board of Directors and General Director of WestFood, said that the company always prioritizes investing in modern technology to ensure the highest product quality, meeting the strict standards of demanding markets.
Not only focusing on processing, WestFood also proactively builds sustainable raw material areas. Since 2018, on the alum land in My Tu, Long Hung, Phuong Binh communes (Can Tho city), the enterprise has cooperated with MD2 pineapple farmers. To date, the area of this raw material area has reached 150 hectares and is expected to expand to 1,200 hectares by 2030.
Mr. Tran Hoang Nghia, a farmer in Long Hung commune, shared: Thanks to the company's instructions on farming techniques, reducing costs, improving productivity and covering all products, over the years his family has achieved a profit of over 150 million VND/ha/year.
The Mekong Delta currently contributes more than 70% of fruit output, 65% of seafood and 95% of rice exports nationwide. With abundant raw materials, WestFood Hau Giang Factory will contribute to forming a closed agricultural supply chain, increasing the added value of agricultural products, while opening up stable and sustainable output for hundreds of farming households in the region.
