Record number of businesses returning to work in 2024

Thạch Lam |

The number of businesses returning to operations in 2024 is expected to reach an all-time high, exceeding 70,000 businesses re-entering the market in a year.

Many bright spots in the business registration picture

According to the General Statistics Office's report, in December, the business picture had many bright spots when more than 8,800 businesses returned to operation in December, up 14.8% over the previous month and up 38.3% over the same period in 2023.

In 2024, nearly 76,200 enterprises nationwide will return to operation (up 30.4% compared to 2023), reaching the highest level ever. The additional registered capital of operating enterprises to the economy in 2024 will reach over 2 million billion VND, up 3.6% compared to 2023.

Business support policies have had positive impacts on the psychology of the people and the business community, reflected in the number of businesses entering and re-entering the market in 2024 remaining high, 1.2 times higher than the number of businesses withdrawing from the market.

According to Ms. Phi Thi Huong Nga, Director of the Department of Industrial and Construction Statistics (General Statistics Office), this is one of the positive signs. The businesses that are operating are those that have experience and have adapted to the economy. When investing capital in business, it means that they have seen business opportunities.

There are still many difficulties

In addition to the bright spots, businesses still face many difficulties, while the resources of people and businesses show signs of decline after many negative fluctuations. The number of newly established businesses in 2024 decreased by 1.4% compared to 2023. In the last 2 months of 2024, the number of businesses entering the market decreased sharply compared to the same period in 2023.

According to Ms. Phi Thi Huong Nga, Director of the Department of Industrial and Construction Statistics (General Statistics Office), the difficulties of enterprises come from the high price of imported raw materials affecting production costs.

In addition, the development of e-commerce also makes many individuals not choose to establish a business but only collaborate and participate in intermediary sales on digital platforms and e-commerce floors to reduce operating costs and maximize profits.

The number of businesses temporarily suspending operations has exceeded 100,000, partly showing that the difficulties of businesses still exist. In addition, the decrease in purchasing power and domestic demand has also caused businesses to face difficulties in product output. This has led to many businesses having to reduce production scale or suspend operations in the short term.

Important dynamic regions such as the Red River Delta, the Southeast and the two growth poles of Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City will see a decrease in the number of newly established enterprises in 2024.

It can be seen that the impressive results in export, production and FDI attraction have contributed to affirming that the business sector is developing positively but still faces difficulties, the number of businesses withdrawing from the market is still high, and the manufacturing industry has potential risks.
