On December 12, information from the Gia Lai Provincial People's Committee said that the province has directed departments and branches to coordinate with relevant agencies to remove difficulties and obstacles in mechanisms for 5 large-scale wind power projects in the area.
Currently, Gia Lai has 16 wind power projects. Of these, 5 wind power projects with more than 600MW have not been put into operation. Currently, businesses have to bear monthly interest on bank loans when there is no revenue from selling electricity, affecting investor sentiment.
According to the Gia Lai Provincial People's Committee, after many meetings, the Government and central ministries and branches agreed to create conditions and mechanisms to remove difficulties and obstacles for these 5 wind power projects.
The District People's Committee and the Provincial Department of Agriculture and Rural Development are coordinating to review the forestry land planning and change the land use purpose of the project that is stuck on forest land...
The provincial Department of Planning and Investment reviews capital sources, financial capacity, project transfer issues, and deposits according to the Investment Law. After completing the procedures in accordance with legal regulations, businesses investing in wind power projects will be allowed to operate and determine the price of selling electricity to the grid.
Mr. Pham Van Binh - Director of the Department of Industry and Trade of Gia Lai province - said: "Gia Lai has great potential for renewable energy. In 2021-2023, a series of wind power and solar power projects were invested and developed, contributing to increasing the province's large budget revenue."
According to Mr. Binh, the Department of Industry and Trade, with its functions and tasks, has actively coordinated and guided procedures to support investors to speed up project implementation. The main reason why the 5 wind power projects have not yet come into operation does not originate from the province but due to problems in the current legal mechanism.
Currently, the Government has issued policies and instructions to remove difficulties and the Department is resolutely implementing solutions to create favorable conditions for wind power investors.
Gia Lai province has 16 wind power projects with an investment capital of over 43,197 billion VND. It is estimated that 1MW of wind power contributes 550 million VND to the budget per year. If 1,242MW of wind power is fully commercially operated, it will contribute about 680 billion VND, accounting for over 13% of Gia Lai province's total budget revenue.
