On June 5, the Department of Industry and Trade of Gia Lai province held a conference to connect trade and promote the export of agricultural products with the participation of the Ministry of Industry and Trade, Vietnamese, Japanese, Cambodian enterprises...
At the conference, Mr. Pham Van Binh - Director of the provincial Department of Industry and Trade said that Gia Lai has currently formed and developed many large-scale specialized farming areas, applying high technology to produce key agricultural products.
Specifically, 97,000ha coffee, output of more than 250,000 tons/year; Pepper 13,000ha, output of more than 47,000 tons/year; Rubber nearly 80,000ha, dry output of 117,000 tons/year; More than 47,000ha, output of 38,500 tons/year ...
These products have high economic value, meet export standards, serve many international markets such as the EU, the US, Korea, Japan, etc.
Thanks to these advantages, Gia Lai is becoming a potential development center, strongly supporting businesses in the international agricultural, industrial and export supply chain.
Gia Lai has continuously expanded its export market, with its agricultural products now available in more than 60 countries around the world, including demanding markets such as the US, Europe and Japan.
However, according to Mr. Pham Van Binh, the proportion of exports to Japan is still quite modest, when the export turnover to Asia is only 30%, half lower than the European market.
In the Japanese market alone, Gia Lai is currently only exporting mainly green coffee beans, while many potential products such as pepper, cashew, fresh and processed fruits, sweet potatoes, and medicinal herbs have not been exploited strongly.
Mr. Pham Van Binh - Director of the provincial Department of Industry and Trade - affirmed: "Gia Lai hopes that Japanese enterprises can pay more attention to the products and potential for agricultural product development of the province, thereby establishing a distribution system and expanding the market in Japan.
At the same time, we also hope that Japanese enterprises will consider investing in Gia Lai, especially in the field of deep processing of agricultural products such as coffee, pepper, cassava, cashew nuts, rubber and fruit, etc.
Establishing processing factories right in the raw material area not only helps reduce logistics costs but also increases the added value of products, better meeting the requirements of the international market.
In 2024, the province's total export turnover is estimated to reach about 750 million USD, of which coffee is the main commodity, accounting for over 55% of total export turnover thanks to the benefits of high world coffee prices.
Gia Lai province aims to strive to achieve 850 to 900 million USD in export turnover in 2025, expanding many new products such as: fresh fruits, cassava starch, wood products and clean pepper.
