Big profits thanks to shrimp price increase
Currently, white leg shrimp farmed with high technology, size 30 shrimp/kg is priced at about 240,000 VND/kg; size 25 shrimp/kg is about 250,000 VND/kg; size 100 shrimp/kg is about 102,000 VND/kg. This price increases from 30 - 50% compared to the same period last year. Thanks to that, farmers make a profit of about 100,000 VND/kg of shrimp - a rare high profit in recent years.

According to some export shrimp processing enterprises, from now until the 2026 Binh Ngo Tet, shrimp prices are likely to continue to increase due to large market demand, while supply is scarce.
Mr. Ta Hoang Nhiem - Chairman of the Board of Directors of Dong Hai High-Tech Shrimp Farming Cooperative (Dong Hai commune, Ca Mau province) - said that shrimp prices are currently 30 - 50% higher than the same period last year. "Each kg of shrimp harvested yields nearly 100,000 VND in profit for farmers. This is a high profit level in recent years," Mr. Nhiem said.

Having just harvested 4 ponds with a yield of more than 20 tons of white leg shrimp, Mr. Long Van Nghia - Director of Long Manh One Member Limited Liability Company (Vinh Hau commune, Ca Mau province) - shared: "The selling price of size 30 shrimp/kg reached 240,000 VND/kg. This farming season, my family has a big bumper crop, each kg of shrimp earns a profit of 110,000-120,000 VND".
According to Mr. Nghia, thanks to the application of a 2-3 stage high-tech shrimp farming model, shrimp grow well, the size is uniform, meeting the purchasing requirements of export businesses. The high shrimp price makes farmers all excited.
As a person with many years of experience in purchasing and processing shrimp for export, Ms. Nguyen Thanh Thuy (Long Dien commune, Ca Mau province) said that from now until the 2026 Binh Ngo Tet, shrimp prices will still be maintained at a high level due to large market demand, while supply is limited. "The sharp increase in shrimp prices is encouraging farmers to continue investing and expanding production," Ms. Thuy said.
Finding ways to increase the value of shrimp
After the merger, Ca Mau province became the largest key aquaculture region in the country, in terms of area, output and export value.
The total shrimp farming area in 2025 of the province reached nearly 430,000 ha, with many forms of farming such as: intensive and super-intensive farming about 40,000 ha; improved extensive farming about 385,000 ha; shrimp - rice model nearly 90,000 ha; shrimp - forest nearly 30,000 ha. Shrimp output reaches over 565,000 tons/year.

Mr. Pham Van Muoi - Deputy Director of Ca Mau Department of Agriculture and Environment - said that the province continues to effectively implement a breakthrough plan for the shrimp industry. In which, focus on planning the development of high-tech shrimp farming areas, ecological shrimp, improved extensive shrimp farming and high-quality rice-shrimp models; developing sustainable, safe, large-scale, high-tech aquaculture along the East Sea dike.
Ca Mau also focuses on forming and developing a value chain for the shrimp industry, from breeding, commercial shrimp farming, feed, to processing for export and traceability.
According to the plan, Ca Mau province develops a concentrated high-tech shrimp farming area in Vinh Hau, Hoa Binh, Dong Hai communes with a scale of about 10,000 hectares. At the same time, expanding high-tech shrimp farming in areas with suitable conditions, limiting fragmented and small-scale development outside the plan.
In addition, the province develops about 100,000 hectares of improved extensive shrimp farming, applying science and technology, achieving an average yield of 550 kg/ha/year. Some communes such as Tan Thuan, Tan Tien, Tam Giang, Tan An, Phan Ngoc Hien, Dat Mui, Dat Moi, Cai Doi Vam... are identified as key production areas for improved extensive shrimp farming models.
In addition, Ca Mau province also expands the combined rice - shrimp production area, creating high-quality products in Ninh Thanh Loi, Vinh Phuoc, Vinh Loc, Hong Dan, Hung Hoi, Chau Thoi, Phong Hiep, Tri Phai, Bien Bach, Nguyen Phich, U Minh, Khanh An communes..., thereby promoting the Ca Mau shrimp brand in the direction of commodity production, meeting domestic and export market needs.
